Soymilk in thermos safe?

Hi all, new to this forum
I have a 2.5 yo going off to preschool. I was hoping for her to have soymilk to drink with her lunch. I was thinking of putting it in a thermos, only about a 1/2 cup at the most. Is this safe? I will chill the thermos first of course and it will be in there from 8:00am to ~11:30 or noon. The other option is to buy the aseptic packaged soymilk, but that just seems like way more than she can drink and will mostly be wasted. Any thoughts on this?

Thermoses work best when they're full. That being said, I think you can easily keep her soymilk safe and cold until lunch.

Get the smallest thermos you can find. I'd suggest a better quality one, like one of the Nissan ones (now made by Thermos too) and not the cheaper kind that often come with kids' lunchboxes.

Does soy milk freeze and thaw ok? If so, I'd try freezing about a 1/4 inch of soymilk at the bottom of the thermos. Just stick it in the freezer the night before, so it's ready to go and pour the soymilk to drink in on top of the frozen stuff. This is the method I use for regular dairy milk.

If it doesn't freeze well, then I'd just put the clean thermos in the freezer overnight or for a half hour or so in the morning. Then pour the cold soy milk into it, and it should also be fine by lunch time, though perhaps a bit less cold than with the frozen milk method.

You might also ask at her school if you can take in some to leave in their refrigerator. DS is allergic to milk and both preschools he's been to since we found the allergy have gladly let me store milk there and they pour it for him at the right time.

I think a thermos would be just fine for that amount of time. I've kept water and juice plenty cool in regular kleen kanteens in an insulated bag with a cold pack for longer.

Thanks for replying ladies...I was thinking about freezing it until I read online that it separates and will possibly taste different. I wonder if dd would notice if I froze only half the amount. It's not like she can see into the thermos to see that it did separate. I got her one of the thermos brand ones from target, a hello kitty one, the other kind was boyish. It holds about 1 1/2 cups and I am only putting about 1/2 cup in there. Last night I put the empty thermos in the freezer and then put the soymilk in there about half hour before we left this morning. Dh said the temp of the milk was ~41 degrees when he checked around 1pm, she eats at 11:30, so I think it's ok.
