Dec. 07 Mamas -- Sept is the 3/4 mark!

WOW!! August just evaporated! My mind is reeling, but I'm so happy it's September! It just *feels* cooler already! : I love the fall/winter months, and September is like a permission slip to start thinking about hot cocoa, and fudge, and turning leaves, and all things woolen. :

I'm going to celebrate the first of Sept. by baking lots of bread (unless we lose power due to Gustav, but we aren't in the direct path, so we'll prolly just get tons of rain/wind). I love baking bread, especially when dh is home (woo-hoo! Labor Day!) to keep the 2 youngest out from under my feet.....last time I made bread, I found a miniature Rescue Hero in the bucket of wheat....apparently, he'd been sent on a rescue mission on the previous bread-making day, but his team just abandoned him to his fate. It was not unlike that scene from US Marshalls with Tommy Lee Jones and Wesley Snipes....

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what lurks inside my wheat bucket this time!

Happy September, Mamas! : How will you celebrate?

Hi- Can I join this thread??

I am also a Dec Mama- DS was born on the 10th, but somehow I kept getting left behind in the last one! I will try to keep up this time

I live in the middle east (but am not muslim) and today is the start of the holy (fasting) month of Ramadan. So I guess this is what I am doing to "celebrate" the 1st of September

We have shortened working ours for Ramadan so I get to go home at 2:30 to see my little man :

Has anyone noticed a BURST of development in the last week or two with your LO'S??
Ethan has been pulling to stand for a while now, but lately has mastered "pulling to kneel" and just hanging out there for a while..so cute!

He is really trying very hard to "talk" and has long intense "conversations" with anyone who will listen.

He loves BANGING things, this is also pretty new. Banging toys on the toybox, chicken bones on his high-chair, spoons on cupboards etc.

Shrieking! This high-pitched squeal that will shatter glasses...normally done in glee though so it's hard not to laugh.

His little sense of humour is starting to come out now, he "plays" with me; coming to find me if I hide behind couches etc, ignoring me with a huge grin on his face while I am calling him.

Ok will stop going on now...am just so in love with my little man.

What are your LO's doing?

Glad to be a part of this thread and RAMADAN KAREEM to any Muslim Mamas out there!

Kym

Welcome to sweetmama! My son was born December 22nd, too!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Christian is really getting big now! He has his two bottom teeth. He's eating rice cereal w/breastmilk, apples, pears, bananas, carrots, peaches, and zwieback toast. He hates the carrots with a passion and acts like he's going to vomit when he tastes them. His favorite is bananas. We just started giving him the toast yesterday. I wasn't sure because it says on the box they should be crawling but my husband thought it would be okay and he was right. Christian really loves them and it's big enough he can pick it up himself.

He finally learned to roll over so he'll play on the floor for a good fifteen minutes or so sometimes without crying. Now if he would just start trying to crawl I'd be really happy! He doesn't even roll more than twice in a row so he doesn't get anywhere. My older ones would always roll clear across the floor to get things but he just looks at them and fusses. He's still not sitting up without support, either. It's really frustrating for him because he wants to explore the world but can't unless I help him.

One thing he does enjoy is his walker. I know about the safety warnings but we are extremely careful. It's when he's in his walker that his little personality starts to come out. He will actually chase us around the room and purposely run over our feet!

My Ergo has been a lifesaver. He still wants to be held all the time and screams when anyone else holds him, even daddy. But if I put him on my back in the Ergo he's perfectly content. It's how I get all my housework done, and it's great when I have to take all four kids out somewhere with me. My four year old is a runner and I have to hold her hand at all times or she bolts. The Ergo is also the only place he'll sleep besides my arms.

I'm really excited school is starting. I gave in and enrolled my 4yo in afternoon preschool four days a week, so for those hours it will just be baby and me! I've only been a SAHM for a year so this is the first time I'll have time to just play with my baby while the others are gone.

OMG it's september? Do y'all realize how close these kids birthdays are? I can't believe it! Yikes! That's all I have to add, I'm supposed to be getting the kids school stuff together.

Oh. My. Heck. We just spent the weekend with my inlaws, got back last night (it's a 4.5 hour drive). When we left, Bethy had 3 teeth--2 bottom and one on top. As of this moment, she has SIX TEETH!!! :

All three of the new ones are on top (one is just barely clearing the surface)!! No wonder she was less than pleasant on the ride home....

However, I will say I think the amber necklace is making a difference, since she seems to be sleeping pretty good.

BTW, if anyone is interested in getting an amber necklace, I have a coupon code for 20% off at Inspired by Finn

The code is "Sarah" and it should be good for a bit longer, so feel free to share it!

I've posted one or two times before in other threads, but I'd really like to start keeping up with everyone.

DS was born on the 23rd. He's mobile as mobile can be, I think he may walk in the next month or two, how crazy is that? On the flip side, he hasn't come anywhere near to saying a word yet. No consonants, just vowels. Lots of screams and grunts I, too am thrilled looking forward to his first b-day. I really want to do a "cake smash" style thing for him, they look like such a blast.
No no no no no, they can't be this old already. That just isn't fair. Where has my sweet smelling newborn. : I have really been savoring each thing he does but I'm still feeling like I just can't be ready for him to be a year old. *sniff*

I left him for the first time for more then an hour on Saturday night, it was my SIL's bachelorette party and I'm her MOH so I had to go. Jonathan had never taken a bottle but dh said he did wonderfully and my oldest son enjoyed being about to feed him. But I was ready to come home and snuggle up to him at 1am. It was fun though!!

Jon didn't want anything to do with pureed baby food so he went right to our food just in small and slightly mashed chunks. He LOVES sweet potatoes (my kind of guy), carrots and TJ's O's. And of course his nursies. He's been getting up 4x a night to get them. I noticed his top teeth are going to be coming in really soon. So maybe that has something to do with his many wake-ups. He also is standing for 3-5 seconds at a time then realizes he's been standing and falls or grabs for something. I ordered one of those superyards from Walmart to put around our stairs and front door. I went to go to the bathroom once and came back and he was about 6 stairs up. : A bit scary.

K, sorry I'm rambling now....hope everyone has a great September!! My oldest starts 1st grade on Wednesday and my middle guy starts preschool September 11. Alone time with the babe is going to be fun!!

I don't know why, but every month I'm surprised to see the new thread.
Cyrus is doing good. He's finally got that crawling thing down. : Scary stuff. And he's eating up a storm. He's finally realized it won't kill him to take a bottle of EBM, just as it's getting hard for me to pump in any quantity.
My favorite thing ever is when he has giggle fits. OMG, he'll laugh for five minutes straight. It's so cute it hurts.
Hope you're okay in the storm, Sarah. My parents are in New Orleans and they use the evacuations as a chance to spend time with out of town relatives they don't see enough of.
Hi to all the new and semi-new folks.
Oh, and we're going on a trip to Boston this weekend for my best friend's wedding! Yay!

Big kiddos!

Lexi is crawling and taking a few steps holding on to things. She's still not sleeping much, but I guess it's ok. Ever since she figured out how to get to a sitting position from lying down, she won't stop.
She's eating food now when I give it to her. That just started last week.

Hi!

We've had a CRAZY burst of development (and a week of almost no sleep) Ash now crawls in a strange, somewhat reluctant way, pulls himself up on everything, push up to sitting and cruises pretty well. Oh and figured out how to open drawers.....I suspect my days of happily perusing message boards while he sits and plays are over.

We're getting together with MamaJen and MmeMuffin this week for a baby dinner date, I'm so excited :

Has anyone (who isn't crazy like me) decided what their babies are going to be for Halloween?
Sarah - Wow, I thought DS going from 2 teeth to (almost) 4 teeth was impressive. He was totally sad all day. One is all the way through the gums, but the other is pushing on the gums so hard. I will be surprised if it isnt out in the morning. He has been grinding his teeth today. The sound is horrible. And he is making the cutest little faces as he is getting to know these new, and sometimes unpleasant, mouth feelings.

HALLOWEEN - I was thinking about DS being a garden gnome, but the whole beard issue is tricky. I know he wouldnt keep one on, and what is a garden gnome without a beard??

pam, i was really sorry to read about caiden in the august thread. hugs to you, your best friend, and her family. i can't imagine how difficult it must be for all of you going through this.

welcome kym! your DS has the same bday as my DD! she has also been going through a crazy amount of development. crawling a ton, pulling up a ton, and still has 2 teeth. she is playing with toys in such a new and different way - trying to put them on different objects and pick them up again, banging them together, etc. it is so fun to watch. i used to work with babies and i loved this age in general, and it is so cool watching her go through it.

and believe it or not, she is saying lots of words! her first word was "hi" in july, and since then she's added "cat," "duck," and "dada." and i don't mean just sounds, she uses them in context and stuff. when she sees someone enter the room, she waves and says "hi." when she's crawling towards or petting the cat, she says "cat." when she's playing with her duck, she shows it to me and says "duck." she knows her daddy is "dada." (nowhere NEAR saying "mama" though, figures...) i can't BELIEVE she's got words already, and other people don't believe me at all until they hear/see it! before you know it, i'll be posting telling you guys i can't get her to shut up, ever!

we are in drawer hell over here too.

and i am SO SO SO excited! it is going to be the cutest fricking thing ever. there will be so much babylove. m is going to freak out. she's going to be so excited to have two handsome boys up in here.

and as for halloween, i can't decide! i keep checking craigslist to see what people are getting rid of. someone was selling a kangaroo costume (two actually) in 0-6M. i was SO SAD. that was REALLY REALLY cute, and there's no way i can stuff her into a 6M costume. she is just too long. my original plan was for her to be a monkey. i think she'd make a pretty awesome monkey. so, if no one on craigslist puts up anything good, i will probably buy her a monkey costume.

i am really excited for fall in new england with m. i'm gonna do all this stuff that i actually never would do otherwise. and halloween! eee! and looking ahead to the winter, all i can think of is BABY IN SNOWSUIT! oh, the cute will be too much to bear. i can't believe how big she's getting, and i can't believe how much FUN STUFF there is to look forward to.

in other news, maya was born 38 weeks after my ovulation/conception date ('cause she was born on her due date). she turned 38 weeks old this morning, which means she has now been out of my belly for longer than she was in it. craziness!

Lol. We're going with a "Star Wars - Return of the Jedi" theme. DH will be Luke and wear DS on his back as Yoda like in the swamp scene. I of course will be Princess Leia :

I'm so excited. I really wanted to mention it earlier. Cyrus, Ash, and Maya all hanging out together! And us mamas! Can you even imagine? We're gonna have to take a ton of pictures and post them up here.
I've been telling everyone that I'm while I'm in Boston I'm meeting up with people I met on the internet. Then I laugh at the incredulous look they make. It's funny, I feel like I practically know so many of you already.

It's so great to be able to read about all the babies and how they are all developing differently. My DD is still toothless, I can't imagine 6! She has mastered crawling this week and getting into a sitting position from her belly. She did it once and that was it. She can say mama and dada, but no matter how hard I try she won't wave bye.
I'm so thrilled to have found this thread:

Is anybody's baby sleeping through the night?
awwww halloween is going to be so much fun!

DH wants Jon to be a pumpkin and of course its like the first year Old Navy or Gap hasn't had a pumpkin. But I found a cute hat at Hannah Anderson that looks like a pumpkin stem so I'll get that and make the costume. I'm so excited for fall!!

You mommas all have a great time meeting up!! Take lots of pics for sure!

Thanks!! and : isn't this age just awesome????

I swear Ethan is also saying his first word!! I'm so glad someone else is having this because I thought I was going crazy.

He's been saying mamamamamam, dadadadadada, nananannanaaa for quite a few weeks now, but you can tell he isn't really assigning them to the real people- it's just babbling, but.....

In the last 2 days when I reach down to pick him up from DH's lap, the floor, his walker, he reaches his little arms towards me and says "UP"- clear as day!
We've been making a point the last month or so of repeating simple words and phrases to him as we're going about our daily lives (bath, hi, kiss etc) and this one must have stuck
Soooo cute and amazing to see his face when he realises he's communicating with us.
I might regret saying this but I just CAN'T WAIT for him to start talking!!

Halloween isn't really big where we live but I might just dress him up anyway for the photo op.

Ethan does sleep through the night most nights, and this is going to sound crazy but I kind of don't like it... he's a little guy and is so distractable during the day so we get most of our "good" nursing in at night when he's half asleep. I worry about him getting enough calories, so I do wake him sometimes when I get into bed, but I also kind of figure that he'll wake up himself if he's hungry?

We only have 1 tooth on the bottom but the last two days have been SUPER cranky so I'm expecting another one any day now.

Eww, grinding teeth....I HATE that sound! : And Bethy is delighted with the sensation, so I'm about to develop a permanent twitch!

RE garden gnome (cute idea!): What if you attached the beard to his shirt instead of to his chin? Like, get a piece of that faux fur at the craft store, cut out a triangle shape, and sew it (or hot glue it) to the collar of a sweatshirt. Leave the bottom part of it loose so that it can flap a bit....even put floral wire (or pipe cleaners) in it so you can curve it up a bit, KWIM? Think that would work? I think it would convey the idea of a beard without annoying him....

LOL! What's funny is that she's a "late" teether compared to my other kids.....the others all cut their first couple teeth before 4 months, and ds1 had 8 teeth before he was 8 months!! It's been kinda nice to postpone the inevitable biting while nursing.....guess those days are over!

Great idea. Yeah, I dont have to abandom the garden gnome. I will have to add beard design to my crafting list.

I HOPE DS gets this tooth through soon, because I can think of no other reason as to why his naps suck so hard core today. This is going to make for a very cranky evening!

I found a cute idea on Martha Stewart about making a black spider costume for Ari (and putting her in my black baby carrier) and making a spider web costume for me.
