Summer Runs Into Fall and Dingoes Run in September... - Page 2

I'm sort of here. I suspect I'll be falling more and more behind in this coming month. Change to my training plan: Oct 9th is looking like my phd defense and oct 11th half marathon is flat out.

JayGee, I was just reading about treating hemorrhoids today (you can guess why) and what was suggested was doing enemas. Also a fiber cleanse. PM me if you want more details.

Thanks so much for all the ideas. I tried a chamomile poultice last night and it really did shrink that sucker considerably. Mothercat, I will check for the Hammelis today. Dingoes always have an answer .

kerc ~ good luck to you on your defense! And sorry about the half.

Plady ~ RUN!!!!!!!!!!

Today is a busy, busy day complete with dental appointments for all 3 kids ! And DD2 was up at 5:30am with a nightmare ("Mommy, there are bugs in my bed and they're going to GET ME!!!") and wouldn't go back to sleep. I am going to run and swim this morning after dropping DD1 at preschool.

Kerc, good luck! Having defended my own dissertation in an October...omg 11 years ago! (ACK!) I can vividly remember the last push. You go, girl!

Okay, first day back to work today (faculty meetings). I have spent all summer in running shoes and socks and am now in...panty hose and loafers. I feel rather bound in. I am looking forward though. Favorite part ( trip to Office Max for new school...um teacher...supplies.

DUDE! I am so jealous! Have a great time.

Doctorjen, I hope you have a much better week this week.

I'm just back from the Y. I did the body sculpt class then attempted to run. I only made it 2.5 miles before my legs just gave out. Ouch. Next time I'll run before that class.

Greetings from Grand Rapids

Thanks for the invite Paige, I am so excited to be able to join in! Today is the hottest day of the season here so running will have to wait until this evening! But is always good to start the day with Yoga.

I'm also in MI, but on the other side of Lake Michigan in the UP.

OK, maybe it was the 3 beers at MB's house, or the taco dip that HBM made, or better yet... the key lime pie and strawberry cake that MBelle brought... but I'm FINALLY down 2 lbs. All time low on teh gym scale. BuhBye plateau!!!! Yay!!!

gigi, I think you gave them to me, judging from my morning WI. or perhaps it was all of the above too. : but I'll take 'em, you're working so hard! and you look great, I thought it last night but kept forgetting to say it out loud in the chaos. I mean, fun times! I will post some pictures when I get them off my camera.

i did some hardcore yoga today. I think plady was asking about it? It doesn't have levels but you can always modify in some way. Dave Farmar is so hard that sometimes I "modify" by flopping on the floor and laying there. I also like 20 minute yoga (on itunes) and yogatoday dot com.

so....it's about time to start the 12 week training plan for a half! I think I'm going to use coolrunning's. And I'm going to try to be faithful about blogging about it, inspired by towsonmama's great blog.

must go get dd plus a library stop, take care mamas!

Subbing. We are back from a much needed weekend away at the ILs. I ate far too much and am fired up to go on a diet and get back in shape. I am starting C25K again this week tomorrow morning and am aiming for a Turkey Trot of some sort. I will choose so it can go on the race list and I can feel like a Dingo again.

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are regular exercisers (mostly elliptical training, weights, and walking the dog) and are interested in starting to run. But I'm confused about how to start without letting my HR get too high. If you can share any of your runner's wisdom, I'd be so grateful.

I'm in good shape and normal weight. But before I started working out, I was horribly, horribly out of shape despite being thin. I had some scares with fainting when I first tried jogging. The doctor ruled out anything serious, but I was a little spooked. When I started using the elliptical, I started out extremely slow to keep my HR low. (It's kind of cool to think that the speed I used to go at the peak of my workout isn't even warm up speed for me now.)

The other day I tried alternating jogging and walking on the treadmill, and I still noticed that my heart rate would go high, like to 190, just from jogging pretty slowly for a minute or two. By the end of the 30 minutes, I got to where I could control my HR a little better by moderating my effort, but it was still going up to 162-170 whenever I jogged. My husband, who's older than me and a bit chubby, has no trouble maintaining his heart rate below 150 despite a huge effort.

Is my situation at all normal for a non-runner? Does it mean that I'm still really out of shape? Will this kind of thing improve with time? Do you have any suggested "routines" for improving?

Thank you!

I didn't do my 5 miles yesterday. But, I did do them today! I will be doing another 5 tomorrow. And I have started my virtual vacation with my friend today!
