Prefold question

Is there something special about the Cloth-eez prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers? Are all prefolds equal? I'm thinking of sewing up my own prefolds using diaper twill and wasn't sure if I was missing something.

I'm not sure about the prefolds from GMD, but in general, you want to make sure you buy diaper service quality (DSQ). Diapers can vary in how many plys are present - I personally will only buy the premium ones, which I believe are 4x8x4. The Gerber ones you find at the store are like 2x3x2 or so...big difference in absorption and quality, obviously.

You can definately make your own - check out this site:

Good luck.

That's actually the site I was planning on useing. LOL
I also like using the 4-8-4. I'm not sure if all 4-8-4's are the same or if there was a difference in fabric used possibly. Not like hemp, cotton, etc but just diaper twill in general.

I'm not a diaper maker (yet, maybe?) but I think the major difference in the Green Mt prefolds is the size. Most of them are shorter, and some are wider than the regular prefold sizes.
I have the red edge ones and they fit my DS SOOO much better than the premiums I have.

They do have all the measurements listed so I'd think it would be easy enough to adjust the instructions from the prefold making site.

That would be great. I have all of the sizes written down (I'm such a planner lol). I kinda thought I'd make the most common sizes and then go from there.
Thanks!

You can make really absorbent prefolds from old t-shirts, too. That would save you even more money, if you're going to be making them anyway.

i found that it was more expensive for me to make my own than to buy, so i got the cloth-eez, i haven't used them yet but after i washed them they were MUCH softer and bulkier than other prefolds i have seen.
and they quilted up faster, not sure why or if thats going to be better in the end but there is a slight difference for sure.
