We're having moth issues. I thought I had mentioned it. They're like the Hydra ~ every time I kill one, three more pop up in their place. Notoriously hard to get rid of. We're going to have to hire an exterminator. I think they must have stemmed from some fabric that I ordered.

Having computer issues tonight, too. Worst possible time. Our old computer, the one which is compatible with my photo editing software, crashed and burned tonight. I think it's finally totally toast. Tomorrow I have to have the previews up for my shop. I haven't even started editing the pictures. PSP 8 is not compatible with Vista, so it doesn't work on this computer. And it won't matter if we can reinstall Windows XP on the other computer and get it working, because my PSP8 disc has a big scratch on it now. I have Gimp, but it's awkward and I don't like using it. So I either suck it up and use Gimp or shell out $60 to buy the new Corel. SUCH a minor problem, but it has me in a panic.

I've lurking...

everything is ok with us.

Avery's been in preschool for a week. I was pretty anxious but its ok and good for him. Lucy is finally starting like solids and is growing like a weed. All the political reporting from Alaska is making me homesick.

PDX holiday craft swap thread is up.

Allison, I copied your thread starter from last year, I hope you don't mind.

So umm yesterday I guess Joe was on his way home (around 7pm on Sandy) and he said someone waved at him and he waved back and I guess she watched him very closely and well he realized what that persons occupation was and sped away. He just thought she was being friendly.

Oh that is too funny! Joe was being scoped out for a "date"

M was approached by a working girl when we lived in Colorado. He was dropping the car payment off and she approached him. He thought she was lost at first and was trying to be polite and helpful, until he realised what she wanted.

So the previews are up on my store I have a few more pictures to take today and then I'm done.

Oh my goodness am I tired today. Ali woke up at around three and was awake until nearly six in the morning. I was on my way to bed when she woke up. Ana and Nate woke up at eight and were being loud and shrieky. And then Gunner woke up a few minutes later and joined the ruckus. I am exhausted. I need to move the furniture today so that I can vacuum underneath to help with the moth issue. Maybe I'll just vacuum the bedrooms today and have M move the couch and giant book cases to vacuum under them on Tuesday while the kids are in school. I'm too tired to sit up straight, let alone move furniture around.

Tonight in the car on the way home from Costco, Gunner suddenly yelled out, completely out of nowhere, "Curse you, Canada!"

to all the funnies

Melanie, Lydia doesn't frequent this board and I don't think anyone here keeps in close contact with her.

Jessie, good luck with the moths, hope you got some sleep last night!

: Rowan has slept through the night 4 days in a row : : that this sticks! :

Lilly wants to see the baby elephant at the zoo tomorrow. Not sure what time we'll be there but would love to meet up w/ anyone else who'd like to join us. I can get one guest in.

Allison, wanna can applesauce with me?

Heather, wanna can salsa with me?

Anyone want to meet us at the park Thursday after lunch?
Forgot to ask, Heather did you start a meetup? I was looking up something for vchs yesterday and a meetup group came up. The pic was really small but I thought it might be you...
I can meet up on Thursday if you guys do.

Anyone want to make a meal for Nicole and bring it to the park on Thursday? I'll make a trip up on Friday if you do.

Happy Sunday everyone!
Wow, that is great that Rowan has been sleeping through the night....will you tell him to speak to Brianna!

What time are you going to the zoo tomorrow? We might be able to go...just Bri and I. I have a ticket that needs to be used by 10/30 for the zoo and of course, Bri is free or is she? She is 1.

What time on Thursday? Maddy has HCA at 12:30 but I could go with the other three if I can leave by 3. What park? Can I vote for Kevanna?
Hey guys, we should try to meet up Monday or Tuesday, as it's going to be smokin hot those days, and the rest of the week it's going to be chilly.

I was actually thinking about Jamison in Portland.
I vote Kevanna, too... because it's within walking distance for me!

I have been so busy today. I cleaned the kitchen, baked {banana-pecan muffins, banana-pecan mini loaves, a loaf of bread, chewy fruit & oatmeal bars and am going to bake a cake or cupcakes in a little bit}, moved the couch and vacuumed underneath it and am going to run the carpet steamer soon. Go me!

My hubby said this about psp8...

It appears that it is “mostly” compatible with Vista, but ALL features may not work. Let me know if you want me to work up some instructions for her.
Change in plans, I thought we'd have tomorrow open but a friend got back to me about a playdate we had been talking about. (Hadn't heard from her in over a week and thought it wasn't going to happen) Sorry Lisa! Hopefully it'll work out next time.

As for the park, we could meet around 12:30 or 1 when Allison drops Maddy off. I'm all up for Kevana

Could also do Tuesday at the same time if anyone wants to switch the days.

Not looking forward to this heat wave :
No problem about the zoo, I have housework to catch up on and go to Target and Fred Meyers.

Tell him thank you so much for the offer, but my disc is unfortunately fatally scratched. I left it on the desk after giving it one last shot a few nights ago and one of the kids played frisbee with it {or at least, that's my best guess for what happened}. The computer doesn't even acknowledge that there is a disc in the drive now. I'm going to call my stepdad to see if he still has a copy somewhere.

I should upgrade, but darnit, I'm really comfortable with PSP8. I groused and whined and dragged my heels when I upgraded from 7 to 8. Now they have version 12! I like my old skool programs. I got through this week using Gimp and it's starting to very slowly grow on me, but I miss the nifty features of my sweet little 8.

I tried to respond to your pm but then the site wigged out and I don't know if it went through.

Oh my goodness, my kids start school day after tomorrow. Can I have a panic attack now?

We bought Ana a lunch bag. Need to find one for Gunner and Nate. Ali saw Ana's bag and cried because she wanted one, too. Of course, I'm a sucker for her tears and she wound up getting one just like Ana's, but in a different color. $5 clearance, so not too bad. They're rather scuffed, but I think I can clean them pretty well and if not I can paint them with pretty pictures to cover the scuff marks. I let the kids choose a few special School Lunch Only treats at Costco, too. What do they choose? Sun Chips, GoGurt and Kudos bars. Yum to the chips, yick to the Kudos. Big ol' Chunk O' Sugar, just what they need to get the day going

Nate is sooo excited. He already almost finished his homework {a poster telling about him} for the first day. The last time he was in school getting him to do any homework, even the most fun projects ever, took hours of meltdowns and major arguing.

As for Madeline, did you try any of the park days? Maybe you should post on the cchomeschoolers board? There are some other active groups in Clark county too. Have you tried any of the Christian groups? What about HCA? There are a couple of older (6-10) girls at ACE.

I am feeling really overwhelmed and frustrated lately. Madeline is needing more and I am feeling so stretched thin. My house is a disaster. The kids are constantly complaining that they are bored. Which makes me feel like I am not providing enough for them to do, play with, etc. But in reality they have plenty of fun things to do its just to messy to do any of them or find any of them. Me being a horribly unsocial person does not help at all. I struggle meeting new people and therefore finding Maddy playmates is becoming a real issue. Its almost crazy how much I dread meeting new people and going to new places. I just cannot handle it some days it stresses me out so much. Finding a family that meets our needs is seeming to be something that is not going to happen. (Not saying I do not enjoy hanging out with all of you at all I love getting together with you guys!) We have been struggling with several things. Most Christian homeschooling families we meet are so busy with school at home and tons of activities and most unschooling families we meet are not Christian and do not have the same values that we want for our children. I keep thinking of starting some kind of Christian Unschooling group but as I have yet to meet another Christian US IRL I don't know if that would even be something worth investing time in. Maybe I should just let go of the idea I have in my head. I need to just look into the other groups and see if there is anyone out there. Can anyone link the groups they know about because the only one I know about is Clark County Homeschoolers. I know about ACE and hope to go but that time of day is horrible for Marah usually. I have been reading Homeschooling Our Children Unschooling Ourselves and honestly its a good book but the state I am in right now it has made me feel inadequate. I think I am seriously going mental. This has turned into a huge mess of a post. What the h*ll is up with me?

I can totally relate. I feel this way also! Someone please help!

I can't seem to get Dylan out of the house. How do you do it?

~It's so easy to feel inadequate when you read books about people who have thrived BUT remember many of them only post the good stuff and they didn't start writing till their kids were older. Life is different when you've got babes/toddlers in the house--imagine what things will be like when Nomy is 3! I know, from direct observation, that you are anything but inadequate!! Someday you'll look back on this busy, stressful period of your life and maybe even miss it.

~Is it possible that the boredom has to do with the end-of-the summer transition? With HCA classes starting soon they may find that they've got enough going on. I know that you & Joe have been thinking about becoming less formal but if the kids enjoy the classes and you get a little time with less pressure, it might be worth keeping them signed up (or at least looking for someplace else they can go and take classes and play with other kids)

~Sounds like you're an introvert and Maddy's an extrovert. Ugh, I dread the possibility of dealing with this one, but I suspect that may be the case with me/Rowan. Lilly's temperament is quite different from Maddy's, but having 1 or 2 friends that she can see regularly has really been enough to fulfill her social needs. Just keep looking and you're bound to find that special friend. Better yet, maybe she'll find the kid herself and she's probably old enough that you can start thinking about playdates w/out parents so maybe that'll take some pressure off.

~The Who site has some group links. Have you tried finding other christians through the LIG yahoo group? Might even be worth a circle discussion at the next conference if there's enough people. From some of the reading I've done it sounds like not finding other people on the same wavelength just goes with the territory when you're unschooling. Sounds like lots of people in other parts of the country just have to make friends with the school-at-home folks 'cuz there aren't may other unschoolers

Got more on my mind but gotta run. Hang in there! We've chosen a difficult path and sometimes it gets bumpy!

The Lego Robotics group is a team up really close to where we live, they just had a couple of openings left so I jumped on it. The kids really love it.

Amy how do you do it? Can you help me get my 6 year old to want to leave the house in a hppy mood? It is getting really hard on me.I want to do so much and provide so much but he just doesn't want to go. And I hate dragging him kicking and screaming.

Went great! Thanks for asking Kids are all signed up and set to go! G is taking Messy Science {Was going to do Simple Machines, but Nate is in that class and I really do not want them in a class together!}, Ana is taking the Learning Through the Year {the Spanish class}, Nate is taking Scrabble, Simple Machines, Super Creative Writing AND Drama. He's going to be so busy! Their teachers seem nice, especially the K/1 teacher. They start classes on Tuesday. I'm a bit nervous, but hopefully it will go well.

Do you happen to know if we're allowed to bring in treats on birthdays? I forgot to ask. Nate's b-day is in October and I know he'll want to bring something for the class if he can.

Ana is so, so excited to start. Gunner was bouncing off of the walls, even more so than usual today {M forgot to give him his medicine this morning and it was like it supercharged him somehow}, but Ana was so calm and sweet and looked so grown up sitting in the chair doing a puzzle and politely chatting with the teacher. I'm nervous about how Nate and Gunner are going to do, but Ana is going to shine.

My Gunner is going to need a lot of extra assistance in writing. I felt terribly guilty about it for a while, because I haven't been pushing him hard, I've been gently encouraging him to write, but I didn't want to force him and have the rebound effect of him hating it even more. His writing level is below that of his little sister, who should be two grades behind him. I'm starting him in first instead of second because he needs that extra buffer for writing. I felt guilty, but then I remembered that Nate had the same struggle with writing while he was in school. Once we took him out of school and backed off of him, let him take the lead, he blossomed and now he hand writes and types short stories. He went from crying and screaming every time a pencil was in his hand to considering writing a treat and special priviledge.

I think kids just learn at different rates in different areas, just like they grow at different rates. I mean, we wouldn't consider ourselves a failure as a parent if our child wasn't as tall as the kid next door or didn't run as fast as the kid up the block, right? So why should academic progress be any different? Go easy on yourself. You've been letting her grow at her own rate. There is nothing wrong with that.

yes what she said....

I am on the comittee and yes we are in the process of it ... maybe. No one has time for much of anything. Bill was going to try to build a website for VCHS but no time right now and the group does not have a lot of money. We were hoping to build something like portland grenn parenting but for homeschooling. This is what I have been working on and an article for a newsletter.

So sorry I haven't kept in touch more. I am also naking and it is hard.
