ANY DOCTORS OR NURSES OUT THERE? Who makes the clogs you wear?

When I had my baby in September, I noticed all of the staff (even the cleaning gals) had on these comfy looking clog type shoes. Who makes them and where do you get them? I am still compiling a list of GOOD comfortable shoes (see prior posts). I have heel spurs and need to find a supportive shoe. TIA!

Hi! I responded to your last thread, but I'll throw my $.02 here, also.

There are lots and lots of companies who make nursing clogs. Were these leather or rubber? I know at my hospital we tend to go through cycles. Basically someone gets new shoes and raves about them, then we all try them, they we move on as a herd to the next great pair when those wear out. Reminds me of junior high a little, actually .

I do know that a number of my colleagues with heel spurs and PF have trouble with Birks, but others swear by them. Seems to be very dependent on your personal anatomy. One important bottom line is that very few of us were able to wear the same shoe for months or years at a time. Rotation seems to keep feet happier.

Maybe you could call the nursing station and ask them. They'd might be a little surprised at the question, but probably will be happy to tell you the brand du jour.

Another idea might be to try the uniform supply store in your area and see if any look familiar. Only problem might be that they might be mostly that terrible white color - though many units are becoming much more fashion forward!

Good luck!

My favorite shoes are my Klogs. I have a navy pair that I wear when I am not at work, LOL. I got them at my local uniform store but they have a website http://www.klogs.com

Clogs

I have been a nurse for almost 6 years and I have tried many different clogs. The first were very expensive (139$) Birkenstocks. I had worn Birks for almost 10 years and thought they would be awesome. NOT!! Then, I tried Dansko Clogs and never will use anything else. This is the experience that 90% of my co-workers have had as well. I wore them all throughout my pregnancy--on my feet as a Labor and Delivery nurse for 8-12 hours a day until I was 40 weeks! My feet got swollen but they never hurt. Check out dansko.com.

I've gotten good deals on Danskos at
www.footprints.com

Make sure you get fitted in person first before you start shopping online. You really need to know your size, and it will be bigger than you think.

I wear the $139 Birkenstock clogs....I have for the last 7 years and I love them. My feet never hurt after a 12 hour shift and my legs are nearly as tired as they used to get.

I would love to try the Dansko clogs (several of my coworkers have them) but I don't like a heel on my shoe (too wobbley for me)....do you ever have a problem with wobbling?

mamax3-

Yes, I do wobble sometimes in Danskos. I rhink it is that they are designed to fit rather big on the foot, and I don't feel that they are really secure if I am rushing. Things go bad in a hurry in my unit and we really have to move *quick*. I've nearly walked out of them before, or stepped wrong and turned my ankle a bit. I feel much more secure in Naots, Clarks, Borns, and Birks.

I still think Danskos look better than most of the above, and I wear them to my side job, which requires office attire, and around town.

I may be a dork, but I talking about shoes.

Dansko

Danskos are great. All the medical professionals I know wear them and love them.

The first pair I had lasted for about 3 years, and I did struggle with wobbling on them, especially on uneven surfaces. I attribute this to the fact that they had a narrow base. (The part of the shoe that hit the ground was more narrow than the part of the shoe that hit my foot.)

I am very happy with my second pair of Danskos because they have a much wider base. I've had no problems wobbling, and expect that they will last me another few years - which is good because they cost a lot! The most common Dansko design has that narrow base, so watch out!

Gook luck!

Ooh, Danskos!!!
I love mine! I've never had any trouble with woobling in them, but they are tricky when you need to run in them....but with normaleveryday wear, I doubt Dallas, that you would need to run . I have two pair of danskos, one with a back and the other backless. I do prefer the clogs with a back.

I have 2 pairs of Danskos, too - backless and a pair with a back. I love them (I'm a massage therapist) but the backless ones are tricky, and I try not to wear them if I know I'm going to be out walking for a very long time. They're pricey, though, & I'm pretty fortunate to live very close to their only US factory outlet store~! I think I got both pairs of mine for $50 each.

Sierra Trading often has danskos on sale.

I have tie-on Danskos and two pairs of clogs (with backs). They are almost indestructible. (Except when one pours parrafin wax on suede )

THANK YOU everyone! I am not a shoe gal....much prefer handbags (have amassed a pretty big collection I'm proud to say), so your input is sooooo very much appreciated. I will make my feet STOP hurting if it's the last thing I do! You all are the best!!

I am not a nurse, but I LOVE my Danskos. They are sooooooo comfy. I am also a Birkenstock gal, too. I LOVE comfy shoes, and I am not afraid to spend some $ on shoes that will last and make my feet happy!

Birks here! But I think that a lot of people have just as good luck with their "gardening clogs" which are <$50 as with the over $100 variety.

hear hear for danskos from here too, though I am not in healthcare at all. But I just wanted to ask, leakyandsnort, where was the outlet you went to located?

It looked like you were in NYCish, and I've been to their outlet in PA (near DE), but would be curious to know if there's one very near NYC, or if the PA one was the one you were talking about.

Sorry to be confusing, but we are planning an expedition there in mid-December, and one near NYC might work better for us...
