Breech Homebirth

So I am almost 38 weeks and still breech I have made the decision to go ahead and still move forward with my homebirth plans as before. I feel a little alone - my husband is sooo supportive - but I still feel like the im the only one not signing up for a c-section. Has anyone on here attempted a homebirth breech delivery??

Never been where you are but just wanted to send you calming thoughts/prayers. What a hard decision to make, and I admire you for trusting in what you know is the right thing for you and your baby.

Hopefully other moms here (or maybe in the general birth and beyond or homebirth forums) will be able to tell you wonderful stories. It seems from what I have read that all you need is a midwife skilled w/breech babies and all is well.

Good luck mama!

I had an amazing breech home birth . It was my easiest labor of all, total of 6 hrs. I'd watch lots of good breech birth videos (I'll post a few if you like) then relax and enjoy.

So is your mw on board? That's great if she is. There's a saying with mw's "hands off the breech" just let the baby do it's thing. Really don't worry what anybody else thinks, this is your baby and your body.

no advice, just
you can do it, mama!!

As long as your mw is skilled in breech births I see no problems with it at all. My mw doesn't do them, and I'd be hard pressed to find an OB that would as well. Good luck, and maybe your baby will still flip for you!

thank you so much for the encouraging words.. I really need it right now! I feel so scared and nervous - but glad that I am giving myself a fighting chance as well. My midwife does not do breech births - but I have found a midwife who will - she has delivered 50 + breech births. I guess its the unknown that is making me scared - I just want my baby in my arms and have him or her be safe. kangaroomum25 - what position was your breech baby? Mine is in the frank breech position - which I guess is a good "breech" position. Did the babies head come out smoothly?? Did the butt or feet come out first? Sorry for all the questions - I have been doing as much research as possible - but its nice to talk to another mom who has been where I am at right now. tanyam926 - thank you for you kind words and prayers - right now I am completley relying on faith to get through. :

Thats great that you have found an experienced midwife!! So many breech births go off without a hitch, the more you look into it and read positive birth stories, the better you will feel (or at least thats how it works for me!).

you should be proud of yourself for sticking to your guns and choosing the birth you feel you need!

He was frank breech, but knowing what I know now I wouldnt be worried if I was birthing a footling. He came out very easily and his head came out pretty quick. I didnt have as much time to prepare as he had been head down the whole time up until about 8cm when he flipped from head down to breech. So ya, your baby might still turn and be born head down even during labor. But I wouldn't worry about which way he/she comes out, babies tend to get in the postition they need to. Just do some reading and be prepared for whatever

My DS was transverse and posterior until I was just about in transition with him. He flipped into a complete head down anterior position and we had a fairly smooth delivery. There definitely is still hope your baby will move.

Are you still doing anything to get the baby to move? I have tons of leftover pulsatilla I could send you...

I don't think there's much wrong with encouraging baby to move if you want to. But don't obsess over it, it's just not worth it. Just focus on having a peaceful calm beautiful birth.

Another successful vaginal breech birth mama here. You can do it!! Good luck!

Yup! I had 2 breech births. What a wonderful experience! It wasn't anything like people said it would be.

Oh this is such a relief to hear!!!! I am so thankful for this mothering site - you just dont hear any "good" and "positive" things these days about delivering breech - so its good to hear that it CAN be done!!!! :My spirits are lifted ... I'm off to my chiro appt !

my midwife says:

"it's the second most popular way to come out!"

you have an experienced midwife, a supportive partner - it couldn't be better!

Have a wonderful birth and keep us posted!

Crashing from the January '09 DDC...

I just wanted to send you positive vibes and let you know if our baby is breech when the time comes, I plan to move ahead with a homebirth. My DH is on board with this plan as well. My MW is also supportive (especially since the only doctor who will deliver breech at the hospital is retiring, so it would be a guaranteed C in this town and would call in a back-up MW with more experience to help.

It's AWESOME that your DH is supportive and I am glad you've found a MW to help too - I'll be lurking for your awesome birth story! Good luck, you can do it!

I would definitely stick to my homebirth plans if this LO were breech. I've read many wonderful stories about breech births and the book Active Birth even has a really great picture of a baby coming out feet first! It's pretty cute actually, little bum and legs hanging out.

Sarah J Buckley's amazing story of a surprise breech UC!

Hugs momma. I'm due with my 1st, so I haven't delivered any babies yet, but I WAS a breech baby. Way back when, before OBs "forgot" how to deliver breech babies. And I was my mom's first. According to her I wasn't even her most difficult birth. So keep that in mind. Just because everyone has a c-section these days doesn't mean it's the only way to do it. Thirty years ago lots of breech babies were delivered vaginally. You can do it too!

What Tess said. I was a breech baby and my mom's doctor was goign to let her try it vaginally. Luckly I flipped during labor. So i came out head down. This whole crazy, breech= c-section is distressing.
