Anyone have recommendations? I am pregnant with my third child and planning to have my first homebirth.

Have you checked out BirthCare in Alexandria? I had my daughter at the Birth Center, but their bread and butter is homebirth. I highly recommend them!

I'm working with Tammi McKinley and Lori Orme http://www.traditionalmidwiferyofnova.com/ They are super.

where are you in NoVa? there's actually quite a lot of homebirth midwives serving that area, but some might be nearer or further from you which might make a difference in who you go with.

I LOVE my MW. She just instantly makes you feel so comfortable. She's fabulous!: PM me for her info.

I second Tammi! I had my second with her, and I love, love love her! :
It would almost be worth having another just to have her as my midwife. Almost.

Also Peggy Franklin in the Gainesville area is wonderful.

birthbydesign.org is her website

Peggy Franklin really is great. After my homebirth with her, I remember telling a friend that I need to get pregnant again because I missed my appointments with Peggy. My friend said, "Just CALL her on the PHONE!"

I am pregnant now (for reasons other than wanting to have another homebirth ) and I'm working with Peggy again.

If you are not on the novahomebirth group, you should join us. There are a lot of questions you'd want answered before hiring any of us, and you will get a wide variety of references, good and bad for midwives.

The latest issue that has come up is mws overscheduling themselves and either not making the births or being too tired and ending up transferring moms to the hospitals.

You have to be very careful and be very thorough. Tammi
(who has no financial interest in this as I am moving out of state)

Ditto!! I've heard lots of feedback about this as well.

I'm sorry to see that you're leaving, Tammi!
