just to do things like laundry.|
There's no shade over the playground part, so it does get hot there but the sand and water area is pretty shady.
I don't know if I'd be happy with that kind of discipline either. At our school, they really stress the positive reinforcement. They have something called a "Cool Croc Compliment" (the school mascot is the crocodile) and the teachers give them to the kids when they see them doing something responsible, respectful or safe. Anyhow, it's a little bit cheesy but Isabella thinks they're pretty cool. Do they have parents volunteer in the classroom? In Isabella's class last year they had a calendar and there was a parent in the classroom every day, and it was not a coop, just our local public school. I think that's pretty common here. If you want to check out the classroom, you should ask if you can come and volunteer once a week or every other week or whatever. I'm sure the teacher won't say no. Isabella was a little disappointed in 1st grade at first, but it was because she thought it was going to be harder. She came home the first day and said mom, I didn't learn anything and we don't even have homework. What is wrong with my child? I think she'll start having homework in a couple weeks so that'll be fun for her. I'm not looking forward to having more to do though. ![]() |

Even in Montesssori preschool, which is supposed to be 'do your own thing', they STILL have 'time for this, time for that', and a good share of rules. It's just a crowd control issue. And we don't get to volunteer in class

I'm glad you're feeling better.

hey there beloved westies!
just poking my head in to say hi and tell everyone i miss 'em. we have had a really difficult last few weeks, a lot of hard situations and decision-making going on in my world at the moment. too painful to talk about in any public splashy kinda way, but we're hanging in there. on saturday we fly back east to be with my family for a week, which is such a relief ... we really need the break. congrats to lily, and i hope you feel better, nicole! |

I forget if I've seen this mentioned here or not.. does anyone know if its legal to have chickens in beaverton? We're buying a house (pending inspection, but most likely we're getting it!) with a nice fenced in yard and I was thinking it would be nice to get maybe 2 hens for eggs.. and well, to eat the spiders out of the yard because ewwww no one's lived in this house for like a year so the yard is veeerrry spidery from lack of use. I think chickens would be the most "natural" way to take care of the problem! hehe.

our poor beloved Toaster was traded in for a van tonight.
bittersweet. i will miss you lil toasty |
There's always a chance there will be that one really nosy neighbor. And even if just some activity and some mowing in the yard will keep the spiders away.. well, there's always going to be a few webs right on the side of the house, ya know? What I wouldn't give for a couple chickens to take care of those. Maybe I could get a dr's rx that I NEED chickens for a "service animal" because my spider phobia is really *that bad*..would that be pushing my luck? lol.
