Ultrasounds and dopplers

What's your view on both or either ultrasound and/or doppler?

I'm currently sitting the fence on the doppler. I did it the first time around, because I really wondered whether the pregnancy was real.

I didn't do u/s with my first pregnancy, and I don't plan to have one this time around either, unless either my dr. or my midwife encourage one.

I probably will be getting u/s's mostly because of my age. I'm ok with it and haven't really heard that it could cause harm. However, I'm going to a midwife this time around and that's new for me, so I'm not really sure what the protocol is for her regarding u/s.

I will not be having an U/S. I know exactly when I got pregnant, wouldn't change the course of pregnancy if I find anything out-so why bother- and I never want to know the sex. As for doppler-I am on the fence-I will probably go for it, just because I like the reassurance.

Neither for us!...Though I may request a late (and I mean late - 35 weeks+) US just to check the placenta (for something like accreta for example) as I will be trying for HBAC.

(oh - and I so hope to be joining this DDC! hehe ....but im trying not to be too hopeful as I got my hopes up last month)

I will do an ultrasound towards the end......I also will have a HBAC and I want to be absolutely sure of where my placenta is.

(Ann- will you be testing tomorrow? I got my first faint + at 9DPO!)

we're definitely not doing an ultrasound...i don't know that i feel that they are "unsafe" per se, but i just don't think it's necessary. doppler doesn't bother me at all, though.

My husband is a radiologist so I won't be able to escape either of them! I'll be getting both, plus 3d, probably several times, just like last time etc. etc. Besides, I'm so paranoid, I'll need to see what's going on. I see no issue with either of them.

I most likely won't get an ultrasound. I didn't have one with the last two. I like hearing the doppler though - it reassures me. With three previous miscarriages, I'll take the reassurance!

I agree with many others, I like the doppler and didn't even realize that people declined that. I love hearing it, makes me feel secure. As for an u/s I would decline unless there was a concern that warrented having one. I know my dates are right on, so no need to check dates and all that jazz.

I doubt I'll use either, maybe a fetoscope.

I would like to have both, this is my first and I kinda want to know that it is "real" and I want to know the sex. If I could get to hear the heartbeat, and then one way later on that they could check the things they what to see and tell me the sex, more then that I think is excessive. I will proably reconcider when we have more. Its my first so I am worried and anxious!

yes i will have both doc at mf office. I never bought one for home i might look into it still early to think about it though

DH and I haven't talked about it. This is our first. When would the doppler be done? Is that at 12w to hear the heartbeat?

We also don't plan to find out the sex though I could see us really enjoying the pictures. We'll look into it though.

This is the same for me. Pending the outcome of my request for my surgical reports from DD's C/S. Last time there was something weird going on and I had skipped all the U/S requests.

At any rate, we don't do the doppler because it's like a mini ultrasound and don't like the ultrasound because it has been shown to cause damage to the microhairs in the ear canals which can affect hearing long term (my SS is a case in point). We're content to hear the heartbeat with a fetoscope. If I do the late ultrasound, it will be specifically requesting placenta placement and fetal position and specifically forbidding any measurements for size.

I had more ultrasounds than I would have liked with my DS because he failed to cooperate for us in making sure everything was developmentally okay (everything was, we just had a stubborn baby), I would rather not get any at all for this pregnancy and avoid the hassle altogether. Since we did centering appointments with him, all the women had babe's heartbeat checked at every 4 week visit and we all got to listen, that was cool and I didn't mind that but I won't mind not having it done as often this time around if at all, a fetoscope would be find with me.
