wow,could this BE more terrible?

My DH is Navy, and his ship was scheduled for a brief underway on Sep 10 for about a week. His command had said he could probably take special leave that week to stay home because I would be close to my due date.

Well ... HELLO HURRICANE HANNAH ... their ship had to leave port today, and since they were already scheduled for the underway, they won't be back until the 17th. They would not authorize 15 days of leave for him, so my DH is in the middle of the ocean (no phone contact) for the next 15 days. I am 37 weeks today.

How awful is this????
Normally I would say 39 weeks is really not much to worry about
But she is breech/transverse and I will most likely have a version Thurs or Fri, and I want him there. And if the version doesn't work they will schedule a C-section before 40 weeks. My practice will not deliver breech, plus she is mostly transverse and I worry about cord prolapse to attempt a vaginal if she won't turn.
Luckily I have my mom and sister here in town, but I don't want DH to miss the birth of his daughter! UGH.

oh, I am so sorry...that really is sucky... a version doesnt mean labor though...maybe baby will wait for dad to come home...

Oh no - I pray that baby stays put until your DH can find his way home.

My best friend's husband was due home from Kuwait 1 day before her due date. He arrived home and the little bugger stayed put another 13 days.

Oh no! I would be in total panic mode!

So sorry you're having to deal with this stress. What horrible timing! I really hope your DH is able to be at your baby's birth. Good luck to you.

How about refusing to schedule a c/s until you are in labor? At least that may give you more time for your dh to get home? Docs are willing to induce so fathers can be there... why not be willing to wait, too?

Good luck, and I hope your babe turns and your dh will be home for the birth.

the hospital may not want to deliver a breech but they cant force you to schedule a c/s. i would refuse that and simply wait. often times stress will inhibit labor from starting and if im reading you right, he will be home in 2 weeks and you are 37 weeks now??? so you will be 39 weeks when he returns.

hang in there. try not to stress too much about it as it can negatively affect babe.

hopefully all the worry is for nothing and he will be home for the birth of your dd.

Ohh wow honey, that stinks. Yeah, they can't make you schedule a c-section. I would refuse and wait too.

Hopefully everything will work out just fine! ANd if your version works but you go into labor early before he is back, maybe you could see if they could set up video conferencing for you so you could talk to him and he can see your baby being born/

My DH is currently deployed with the Navy... he's on his way home (on the ship) but of course they won't be here till mid October! There's no way they'd give him leave to come see the baby born. In fact... they won't give him leave after he gets off the ship either. He has to wait till sometime around halloween to take his 10 days of leave. It's so stupid. So yeah, I feel your pain and anguish!
