Where to buy?

We recently moved from Canada. We used to buy a soft cheese product called Minigo (or Petite Danon) for our kids. We've bought it in England and continental europe as well... I think they generically call it fromage frais there.

We've tried the closest Whole Foods, QFC, Fred Meyer, Trader Joe's, Safeway and Top Foods and haven't found it anywhere. Maybe we're looking in the wrong place? Does anybody know if it's available anywhere in the Seattle area?

It's really, really popular in Canada. We get some when we go to Vancouver (BC), but it's not reasonable to drive to Canada for groceries!

Fromage frais is similar to a fromage blanc or quark, right?

Mt Townsend Creamery would be a good place to start. They attend a couple markets:

Yes!

I think that fromage blanc or quark are other names for it. Thank you. I'll check out those places.

I feel your pain. There are so many food products I miss from home.

If it's quark- you can find it next to the sour cream and/or ricotta cheese in most supermarkets.

Once I sent DH to the store to get some ricotta for lasagne and he came home with that- it made the best lasagne ever! Since I have used it in place of most sour cream in recipes because I don't like sour cream and even whole milk yogurt can be too runny. I have purchased it at the safeway and at the top foods.

If that's the case, you can find quark at Trader Joe's (I'm sure the Mt Townsend Creamery stuff is far superior, however!)

I thought I saw fromage blanc at Whole Foods last week-I was actually getting something else, I saw it and it made me think of this thread but I couldn't remember for sure what it was called! When I go there this week I'll make a point to look again.
