Blogger vs Wordpress

I'm just beginning the process of blogging for my future at home business. I've read on MDC that a lot of WAHMs use Wordpress. Does anyone use http://www.blogger.com?

How does it compare to Wordpress?

Thanks!

I'm interested to know this too.

I have a personal blog through blogger and I really like it. I had considered converting it over to wordpress, but didn't like the setup. Though, it may have been because I was used to blogger.

I can't compare the two, but may be able to answer any blogger questions you have. =)

I use wordpress for a couple of different blogs I'm running, and I used to have a blog on blogger. Personally, I prefer wordpress, but I'm also one of those people that go in there and play with they way it looks.

The interface has changed recently with the new version. It's a lot easier to add widgets and to personalize and the number of themes are amazing. I will usually take a theme and then tweak it with my own graphics and things.

I'm using a pure theme on my personal blog (I haven't changed it yet) and I adapted on the crime watch blog I setup.

I think its the personalization you can do with wordpress that I like. And, IMO, if you are going to be purchasing a URL, it would be a bit more professional then blogger, I think.

Many people choose to use WP instead of Blogger due to issues in the TOS with Google. Google can remove your blog and content at any point, without notice, if you use Blogger to build your blog. If you're using your blog for business, a self-hosted WP blog might be a better, more secure way to go.

WordPress for search engine optimization
WordPress for template customization/design
WordPress for pages as well as posts (it really can be a content management system on it's own)
WordPress for great admin section
Plugins (add ons) in WordPress....

the list goes on...Blogger is good if you want quick and easy. WordPress is if you want to have a serious, professional blog.

Thanks everyone! I've looked into Wordpress and am leaning in this direction. Any more tips you'd like to share with a newbie blogger?

Thanks!

I've just researched the same question and wordpress won hands down.

I've just signed up for a Wordpress blog and... it's TOUGH! I don't know CSS customization and all the templates are, well, blah. Certain ones provide options with width, others with colour, others with custom header, font, etc. None give me exactly what I want. Am I missing something?

Check out the free themes available at the website: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

A good site for information and learning about html and css is http://www.htmldog.com/.

For learning more about the indepth workings of wordpress, and the beginner stuff, use the wordpress codex. There is lots of good information, and it's not all written in geek.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I have been reading through them slowly.

I was trying to figure out why I couldn't sign into the Wordpress account I set up yesterday when I realized that there is a .com and .org. I signed up for the free .com blog. Any reason why I should change to the .org? Perhaps I should wait and change over when my business is up and running?

Here is where I am slowly working my way through the info.

I signed up for the blog (which is great b/c it holds my name) but what I really want is to use a wordpress template and host through a 3rd party. That way I can have a website and blog. I am basically using worpress b/c their web design templates are much more professional than the godaddy or other ones I have played with.

The .org is for your own hosted blog (www.yourdomain.com instead of yourblog.wordpress.com). Many hosts have an automatic installer, pm me if you'd like a recommendation. You can install a premade or custom made template into your themes folder and activate it and you're ready to go.

I almost had no traffic that wasn't linkbacks with my blogger blog, but with WordPress, I am shocked as to the amount of traffic I'm getting even though I'm not a regular blogger (working on that!). I currently have a .com blog, but need to switch it to a .org one for my (start-up) business.
