Anyone hired an au pair in NYC?

Thread Starter
With the impending arrival of my second child we are considering different child care options and one thing that has been suggested to us is a live-in au pair. We have the space to accomodate such a person. What are the issues to consider in hiring, having a stranger come live with you, etc.? And how much should we expect to pay in addition to room and board? Any advice or comments will be welcome.

TIA!

Try the Park Slope Parents site. They have a whole section on nannies, baby sitters and I'm assuming au-pairs. You could also try posting on their yahoo group for replies.

I just checked the site and the Nanny Survey 2008 is on their home page in about the middle. They also have resources with FAQ's etc.
