Non-vax friendly dr. in Charlotte?

Hi there,

I've been going to Ballantyne Pediatrics since my 1st dd was born in 2001 and just found out the other day that they will no longer see my children because of my refusal to vax. This ped. office is associated with Presbyterian Hospital, so I assume all their other ped. offices will now have the same policy. Does anyone know of a nice pediatrician or family dr. (preferably in south Charlotte) who will take non-vaxed children?

thanks in advance,

Jamie

There was a doc in Waxhaw that was non-vax friendly. I've seen his name on here before. Hopefully someone will be around and have the name. I think it started with a K. I'd like to have his name too, just incase we need to see a ped for whatever reason.

Dr. Kanelos! He is a family doctor and has offices in both Ballantyne and Weddington. He is a part of Carolina Family Healthcare. We LOVE him...lots of NL/AP charlotte mommies use him.

Growing Up Pediatrics in Cornelius respects parents choices. You do have to sign a refusal form though.

Does Dr. Kanelos make you sign a refusal form? My DD's appt is coming up in a couple of months and at this appt I have to sign a refusal form with her ped and am really worried. I modified the AAP form, but I doubt the Dr will accept.

He has never asked us to sign anything. In fact, I offered. I just assumed I'd need to sign something. He said something to the effect of "Don't worry about that. We have many families who don't vaccinate."

I'd modify a form also, if necessary. Of course, the doctors may not accept it. But, that would be my first step. Nah, I'd find another doctor who respected my decisions.

Btw, do you all know about our new "Exploring Holistic Alternatives" group locally? There are a lot of AP/NFL mamas in the Charlotte area. And we are developing a forum about local AP-friendly doctors. Plus, MNO, park days, playdates, family gatherings, holistic meetings and presenters, etc.

DAnG! We go to Dr. Roy in University, I know his office is associated with Presby, but it's a little office and not just Peds. I really hope he doesn't stop seeing un-vaxed patients. He doesn't seem the type, but you never know. I can't imagine driving to Ballantyne...ugh, what a trek, especially for a sick visit.

I believe there is a "Dr. Rose", or something like that up in the Huntersville area. She may not be a ped, though. I can't recall. I'll try to find out.

She closed the Huntersville office a while back due to family issues. I'm not sure if she opened a practice anywhere else. She sent a letter out recommending pediatricians and other practicioners. Growing Up Pediatrics is right next door and she recommends Wendy Talley, but she does make you sign a form saying you are not vaccination.

Thanks, I didn't know all of that. One could provide a vaccine exemption to keep on file at the doctor's office also.

I've heard mixed reviews on Growing Up Peds. My chiro uses them and is very happy there, but I don't think it would be a good fit for us. I am going to keep my fingers crossed that Dr. Roy sticks with his current mindset. Even that office is a trek for us, we live in Elizabeth. I don't understand why open-minded docs don't have offices near all the hospitals..yes, that was a joke!

I used to go to dilworth Peds and see Dr Dudley. She was awesome and very laid back with vax and pushing meds. Well she retired and i was in the office yesterday with my oldest son for some depression issues and i asked Dr Evans a new doc and a female if she was non vax friendly and she said ...no quite the oppisite...she stated very clearly that after Dr Dudley left all the docs are on the same page with vax's and push vaxing and take vax very seriously. So needles to say...we will not return to that office anymore. I've called Dr Kanelos office and they are willing to see us for any issues...and he is non vax friendly.
