lol LOVE that one with the shirt. I can't believe he's old enough to have teeth! Seems like you just had him yesterday!! He's sooooo adorable! Makes me want another one. Don't worry, tomorrow morning when I'm getting my three up and about and doing our routine I'll get over it. lol

On another note...
Can't believe how quick my leaves changed color this week. They were still almost completely green on Sunday and yesterday I was laying on the couch sick (my sympathies to anyone else who has had a stomach bug go through their house recently) and looked out the window and just about every leave is now orange.

And on yet another note...
I'm excited we finally got new registers and telxons at work. Unfortunately, the debit/credit card part isn't online yet, which means we had a bunch of people coming in, somehow missing all the bright orange signs stating that, and then getting annoyed because they didn't have cash or check.

Oh, and one more thing. Does anyone know of some magic way to get an 8 yr old to have a better attitude? I have just taken Autumn's tap class away because I don't know what else to do. I have told her it is her choice how she behaves and that if she can fix her attitude that we can try tap again after Christmas. But I hate to have taken it away in the first place. *sigh*

I don't know about the attitude thing. We are struggling fiercly with it here too (just 3 years earlier). It literally came down to losing every toy, her computer and her wii fit time. (l left her books and art supplies) DH wanted to take hockey away, but that is such a long time comittment (goes till March) that I felt that was too much for an almost 5 year old y/k? It seems like she had to hit rock bottom, before she started to come around. I don't mind sassiness in general, because... well... I can be kind of sassy , but it's the blatent disrespect for humans and animals that I struggled with. Thankfully, as I said, after hitting rock bottom, she's earned her toys back and is much easier to live with these days. I hope you find a pleasant middle ground with her soon.

If I remember right... you HS through Twindley? Is that right? Can you PM me your thoughts/feelings on them? I'm starting to seriously shop homeschooling options, as I really think that is the way we are going to go. I had my heart set on the charter school, but I was sitting in the shower this morning, thinking about how early she'll have to get up next year (she's an 8:30 rise kind of girl) and that she'll have full days of kindy there.. and that just seems like a lot of pressure for such a little soul. At any rate, the only one I've talked to in length is IDEA. I liked the kit borrowing aspect of it, but I like the elementary days aspect of Twindley, where they can get around kids for a full day of learning.

Where do you work again? That must be so frustrating! I had a love/hate relationship with my job as a cashier for Safeway, way back in the day.

I work at Joann's. I love working there. I am a crafty sort of person and rater a chatterbox, and everyone who comes through (for the most part) is very friendly. I like everyone I work with and they are willing to work around Andrew's work schedule so I don't have to hire a babysitter.

I'll message you here in a few minutes about Twindly.

drive by posting...

Anyone know of any place in ANC that sells Ecover fabric softener? Preferably someplace that bush ships? FM doesn't; I checked their website...

My first thought would be natural pantry. I don't know about bush shipments though.

I'll give NP a call. I was thinking they might, but htought I'd ask and see if anyone knew offhand.

I'll get together with a coworker and see if she wants to order anything (if they do indeed do bush orders, which I think they might).

I'm feeling ready to sell my 15 yo to the lowest bidder.

I AM KIDDING, for all those who take the internet too seriously.

But we've hit the "NO. Make me," wall once again.

She's outside. I told her where the sleeping bags are, and that she'll get a bowl of hot rice at dinner time, and a glass of water.

I am so sick of being treated like her flipping handmaiden. She decided to go ballistic this time over being told she had to write a rough draft of a book report BY HAND.

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

That sounds hard. I remember being 15. It's sort of the worst time ever...and it goes so slowly and everything is so uncomfortable.

I have an almost 6 month old...she is so sweet and sometimes I just think about when she will be 15. She will probably hate me. Hopefully I won't take it too personally.

Good luck, by the time I was 16 or 17, I was a normal person again. (i think!)

Thanks, katiesk.

There are two major issues here...one is that she's being horribly defiant, and it's not like we ask her to do a ton of off-the-wall hard chores. She's had it awfully easy this semester (her HS curriculum isn't in yet, so her main work has been art and reading Fahrenheit 451). The defiance is witnessed by the little kids, and I can't (won't) have that. I just won't.

The second is that we are one of the most VERBOSE families I know. I mean, we TALK, we discuss, we really try to work it all out. Some things are non-negotiable.

I would have let her write the damned outline with the computer instead of by hand if I could have read her first draft (written by hand) at all! Her handwriting stinks, and she needs to work on it. So, that's where that came from.

Grrrr.

I remember being 15. It was horrible.

I really thought it would be different when I had kids...sigh.

love, p

Penelope, for your hard time with DD, I have a student in one of my classes who is driving me batty! : Of course when my own kids are that age they will be perfect I honestly worry about it, even though I work with high school kids all day, kids are so much meaner to their parents than they are their teachers, it will be hard not to take it personally and remember that a lot of it is just the age.

On the whole writing thing, I don't know what you have her do already, but can you have her do daily journaling or something like that to help improve her penmanship? Maybe at least a page a day about whatever, the only thing that matters is the actual penmanship? She may be less "bucky" about something like that. I know that I personally get really frustrated when I have to write anything long by hand, I type so much faster I just get impatient with myself. When I journal I am more relaxed and I don't care how long it takes so I don't mind as much.

Good Luck!

Ahh P... a million hugs to you. It's such a tough age. I remember feeling so out of control with my emotions (much like I am most of the time now LOL.. freaking perimenopause).

I'm sorry she's pushing boundaries. We've been going through that here, but Em's only 4... I feel like I have more control of the situation now at least.

I wish they made some sort of tincture that would just level out the emotions of adolescence.

:

Personally, I don't see the point of improving penmanship. By age 15, it's really a choice--and besides, all papers in college (and most notes, for that matter!) are typed. So really her handwriting is for herself, kwim? -- but that is just my personal opinion!

Yay Tammy!

I feel like handwriting is good for more than just writing college papers. While good penmanship is not as valued as it used to be, as people just don't write as much as they type, that doesn't mean it has lost all of it's purpose!

alaskaberry, handwriting legibility is very important to us as we minimise the amount of time kids are allowed to work at a computer. In my opinion, being able to write a legible paper by hand is a very important skill. One cannot always have a laptop at one's fingertips, and even if my daughter COULD haul a computer around with her 24/7, I would not allow it.

For instance, my 13yo is writing a story. It's gorgeous, and it's already 5 (handwritten) pages long. I love reading what she writes, and she wouldn't be able to write nearly as much if she ONLY ever wrote on a computer. I hope that makes sense.

The issue is bigger than her handwriting...she has gorgeous penmanship when she *wants* to. The biggest issue is her defiance and rudeness.

Tammy, mazel tov on the house!!! ::

love, penelope

Penelope, just wanted to send some more hugs...I know your DD will thank you when she gets older for being such a good, fair and consistent mama to her.

Hope today is going well.

Tammy, congrats on the house!!! When will you be coming home?

I do care about my children's penmanship as well but I agree it is difficult to get them to care sometimes.

I should be home Friday in time for dinner!
