I'm homeschooling through IDEA, but I don't have my ILP done yet either. It's also my first year with them. I'm not writing down the topics in such a formal manner as in the sample. Rather, I'm just making a list. (after all, if you look at the IDEA website on what the State's standards are, they are just in list form.) If I have an actual bought curriculum for a subject, I just copy or summarize what it says in the overview from the publisher.

Also, if you didn't go to the orientation, here's a great little statement to add to the end of your "Curriculum Materials" section for each subject, that I got from the lady who ran the orientation:

"Other textbooks, readers, workbooks, software and other media, games, puzzles, crafts, kits, field trips, workshops and activities as needed and available in the community."

then for these subjects you may want to add to that statement:
Math - Manipulatives
Science - Lab Materials
History - Maps & Globes

She said it pretty much covers everything then and you wouldn't need to fill out an ILP amendment unless you totally changed the topics you covered.

If all else fails, you could always consult with your contact teacher.

I almost forgot to mention, we're moving to Wasilla:

Elvis, have you already picked out a house?
yep, we're all set to move in this next weekend (or sooner, if DH takes off work). He is there tonight doing a little work on it.

big place, virtually no carpet (which I am so happy about) nearly 2 acres of land.

Thanks Laura, that really helps!
Cool, Laura! Where in Wasilla are y'all going to be, if you don't mind my asking. We're near the corner of Seldon and Lucille.

Well, looks like we will be leaving this wonderful place next year. Don't know yet where we'd be going, but we're going. Kind of excited, kind of bummed.

Oh, Laura, meant to tell you. In case you weren't aware of it, we have an awesome little toys store by Carrs that has toys worth buying.

We finished my 15yo's ILP today and turned it in, using those phrases. Thank you so much for those! (I'm still a little lost on most of their highschool rules for electives, etc., and I WENT to the orientation!! )

Sounds like a LOT of people are moving and buying new houses! Wow! :

PureAKCrystal, congratulations on your little boy's second birthday. :: Now the fun REALLY starts!

The new 13yo had a great bday, seemed to last for three day's. Thanks for all the well wishes.

love, penelope

Anybody going over to the "Welcoming" of Sara Palin today? I think I'm going to go and wear a shirt that says, "INVENT BABY INVENT"
does anyone else find it completely bizzarr now that Our Gov is VP potential??
Yesterday I was watching CNN and it was nothing but Palin and Alaska. Very surreal.
Now, maybe people will actually know where Alaska is on a map???

Speaking of.........
And this might not be the right forum
but if Sara goes to the White house and Parnell goes to the Senate......who will be governor?

Thanks spruce!

I would go and hold up a sign that says "Evolution is not a theory."

No idea. Probably not anyone as cool as Palin. She is one of the extremely few politicians I have actually liked. But I honestly don't remember the order it goes in if there is a vacancy. I know the presidential back-ups, but not for governor. Maybe there would be a new election?
I can answer the question about who is third in line to be AK's governor:

When a new governor takes office s/he nominates a member of her/his cabinet. This person is then confirmed by a majority vote of the legislature. Palin nominated attorney general Talis Colberg and he was confirmed. Hopefully, you will not need this information.

They aren't allowing any signs. Normally I would be all about going to this thing with a sign and being very blatant about my disagreement but I'm actually concerned that they may take a page from the rule book of big city protests and actually decide to arrest protesters who make a big stink. I can't take that chance with having a young nursing baby who needs me. I think I'm going to wear my shirt that is relatively non-confrontational and put a sweater over it at first and scope out the scene. I'll have my kids with me so I'm feeling especially wary. I really want to get some pictures and just be able to say I was there.. it is rather a historical event.

I agree that this whole things seems so surreal.
I've been reading the News-Miner comments and boy are they heated!

oh and did any of you read what they said in the article about this yesterday?
Quote:
While the event is open, organizers are asking that people attend in support of Palin and McCain.
“If you don’t, we’re encouraging you not to come,” Pierre said. “We’re Alaskans first here.”
That's what really made me want to go and wave a big angry sign! Basically saying that if you disagree you aren't a real Alaskan or something.
Well I'm hoping she makes it back down to Wasilla or Anchorage. I'd love to go and be there in support of her. (not that I think that if you don't, you're not a real Alaskan.)

I think they're having this gathering at the airport instead of the more reasonable place, the Carlson Center, SO THAT people have to abide by airport rules, although I don't see how signs are dangerous to anyone on an airplane. You will be wanded and won't be allowed beverages on the bus to the airport if you travel that way from the Carlson Center.

I'm sure the security around the airport will be nightmarish. I feel sorry for anyone planning a flight tonight.

love, p
