Why am I making a monster link post? I'm currently working with The Trust Birth Initiative and hope to be facilitating meetings in 2009! I decided to start visiting all the local groups I could to get an idea of what was already going on. I was just putting them all in my personal calendar and thinking how exciting it is and then also that some of these events don't really seem to get the word out well - different groups go to the same things over and over, you know? I figured better to help get the word out than wonder why it's not getting out! So yeah, I'm not a representative of any of these groups, just a fan of more local events to empower and educate women!
Birth - A Play was AMAZING! I really, really hope it comes back. WOW.
I recently heard about SisterSong - while attending the play, actually. They are a Women of Color Reproductive health Collective. They will be hosting a Red Tent on September 20th from 3-6pm. It will be located in Atlanta, at SisterSong's headquarters. Check out the website for more info or to RSVP. Personal note: I did email Heidi and ask if the Red Tent was for Women of Color only, as I'm very, very white! She told me they welcome all women who have had experience with birth, whether they are mothers, midwives, doulas or birth advocates.
There's a new homebirth meet-up group. They're called The Greater North Atlanta Homebirth Supporters. They also hosting a Bold Red Tent Event will be happening on September 27th! FINALLY! Just added: Orgasmic Birth - beginning at 1:30pm! You need to RSVP to get the full details, but they've picked a location. It'll be in White, GA, which is unfortunately quite a trek! Carpooling is definitely a good idea
Just for fair mention, there is another, older homebirth meet-up group. I'd hoped to go this month, but fell sick
We're all better now! I have no idea if politics are involving in having two. I plan to visit The Atlanta Homebirth Meetup Group soonish and see what I think. They actually meet in Marietta, FYI. Their next meetup is September 25th.
Baby Steps has already hosted several wonderful events in the area. They've got Pickles & Ice Cream Social coming up on October 20th. They're planning to hold them bi-monthly all over the greater Atlanta area
