my dd is attending a UPK program in NY can they require by law the MMR? I know I can fight it but i dont have much time to do that but are they allowed by law to say she needs to have it. I thought that was only once they start kindergaten

Yes, they can require vaccinations for daycare and school. You need a religious exemption if you don't want her to receive the shots.

If it's a private program that receives NO state/federal funding they can refuse exemptions.

You can see here that 1 dose of MMR is "required" for Pre-K entry in NYS.

New York State has religious and medicial exemption from Vax.

You will have to claim religious opposition to all vaccines and get a religious exemption. You cannot refuse only the MMR. You can, however, say that you did other vaxes previously but then had a religious conversion and are opposed to doing any since then.

Only the MMR, can the doctor write a medical exemption for you?

A doula was asking about religious vax exemption on my NYdoula listserv group and this was the response she got from another mother:

"For help with the letter you can contact Deborah Monlux at nyvicteam@nyvic.org
She charges a small fee for her services but she was very helpful and our letter did eventually get accepted! Deborah has been helping people for a long time and knows the laws really well. "

A doctor would not likely sign off on a medical exemption unless there was a medical reason to do so.

UPK is universal pre-K which is public. You will need a religious exemption to ALL vaxes for NYS.

You never know if you don't ask the doctor!
It sounds like this mom did not do the MMR but did the other vax.

My nephew had an allergic reaction to the first MMR and got a medical exemption, however he did go on to receive all the other vaccines.

If I was still going though all this I would call Deborah Monlux for help at NY Vac support.

Well you really do have a bit more complicated situation.
email Deborah Monlux , you can not be the first in this situation.

If it was me, I would just list the dates they "received" the mmr and hep
And be done with it!

Hep A is not required for school entry in NYS.

If you choose to use the religious exemption you MUST state opposition to ALL vaccines - and since you have vaccinated already, you should state that your beliefs have changed. You can still selectively vaccinate, but you must be very careful about keeping your exemption separate from whatever you are doing at the doctor - and never let on to the school that you are selectively vaccinating.

Most, if not all, schools require a copy of a signed immunization record from a doctor's office. Personally, I wouldn't ever fudge vaccine records (in NYS, anyway) b/c if you get caught it'll likely REALLY blow up in your face and there go any future chances at exemption.

OK I am going to submit a religious exemption stating that my beliefs have changed very recently. B/c about 2 weeks ago she had boosters to dtap, polio , and chick pox. otherwise hadnt rcvd anything since like 12 or 15 months. not even antibiotics!

DO NOT submit those records to the school - in fact, don't submit any at all. The religious exemption form should be submitted in lieu of any vaccination records.

uggghhh i already did b/c the doc was like oh they cant make you get the mmr. i didnt know
but if they say anything i am going to say that i was pressured. what do you think?
Honestly, I think you may have a tough road ahead. I wish I had better advice for you. Since you just submitted vaccine records that indicate recent vaccines, they'll probably question the sincerity of your beliefs. Unfortunate and unfair as it is, NY is all or nothing when it comes to religious exemption.

Can I ask why you object only to the MMR, and not any others?

Aaaargh, this kind of statement makes me crazy. It would seem that docs know NOTHING about vaccine laws and regs!!!!!!!!!

see i was unknowing or maybe more ignorant is a better word, in the beginning. so as time went on and i started to question more and more, and learn more and more , I decided i didnt want DD to have some of the vaxs. so at that point it was at the MMR and the hep a. then i stopped all and when i went to the doc all of a sudden I felt pressured and scared and caved on the ones that needed boosters but again said no to the ones i didnt start yet.
