Are there any formula companies who *don't* advertise?

Anyone know?

I suspect not, but I'm trying to cover my bases for a paper I'm writing.

Heh, I suspect not too! Although I suppose if they didn't advertise, very few people would know about them, so even if they exist you may not hear about them for your paper!

I can't think of any formula companies, but I vaguely remember a company who makes bottles who agreed to abide by the Code - anyone remember the name?

i think it was medela that recently acquired evenflow. since medela follows the code, evenflow now does as well (i.e. no advertising of bottles/nipples/etc).

i don't know about formula companies... bright beginnings was the only one that i hadn't ever seen a tv commercial for, but one of the free baby mags has a spread every month. i've seen commercials for nestle. i don't know if i've recently seen a commercial or saw a print ad for enfamil, but the two people i know that use formula use it - they are also on wic so it might be the wic-supported brand (i don't know how that works). ETA: now i remember the enfamil ad, with the cartoon bunny mama.

hey - do you have a family doctor or your kids a pediatrician? you could always call them and ask if they know about formulas available only to physicians or something?

i can't imagine a company would have their product available in the store without ANY advertising. (i'm excluding the store-brands, of course).

Actually it was Ameda that was purchased by Evenflo, and Evenflo is now working towards becoming Code compliant. At the moment, Medela is anything BUT Code compliant. :

To my knowledge no store brands advertise. (At least, they don't beyond in the store.)

Of course, it's quite likely that the formula itself is made by one of the large, advertising formula companies (just the same as most store brands of food are the exact same thing as brand names, simply packaged differently). You might want to look into that some.

The store brands may not be advertised in magazines etc like the name brand formulas, but they are still advertised on websites (President's Choice for example), and in store flyers which go out to the public.

I've never seen an ad for Baby's Only organic formula. Maybe they do, not sure, but at least on the can they state that it is for toddlers only--according to the company this is not because it is any different nutritionally than infant formula, it is because they don't want anyone to be under the impression that anything but breastmilk is acceptable for an infant under the age of one year.

I could call our pediatrician, they'll probably think it's the strangest question though.

The name "Baby's Only" is not exactly synonomous with "toddler formula" though. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing ads for it somewhere though...

Is Baby's Own from the Earth's Own brand? I remember going to my local health food store and seeing a HUGE over-the-aisle sign for it.

And really, it doesn't make a lick of sense to wean a toddler from breast to formula, so I have my doubts as to exactly where that stuff's marketed.

they say its because they want to support breastfeeding for the first year of life so they only recommend it as a toddler formula. But its supposedly acceptable for babies too.
