I know I wasn't part of the original thread but congrats! I had Sue with ds#2 and she is a most amazing midwife. So glad you got to have the birth you wanted!

I ended up going with Sue Smith and having a homebirth. I went 8 days over my due date (which felt like forever) and vaginally delivered my 10-lb baby boy on Feb 20, 2009 at 1:01am in MY bed in MY home! It was the most amazing experience EVER and I'm super grateful to Sue and Pam Campbell (who assisted Sue, LOVE Pam, she's great!)! Anyway, thanks to everyone and I'm SOOOO glad that I found this forum that led me to Sue so I could have my VBAC!!! :
Amazing, amazing, amazing!!!!!! ::::

I just sent you an email. I'm so, so happy for you!

Ok, so I keep hearing that Mary Mumford-Hailey is really great, but no one ever talks about the actual hospital she delivers at (Memorial in Pawtucket). If anyone had a choice would they rather go to a different hospital?
Has anyone met a MW that would be willing to deliver at a different hospital?? I am having such a hard time -- I find a MD or MW that I like, but than I'm not happy with the hospital choice!!! What to do?????

I would never consider giving birth in any other hospital in RI. Check their stats vs. others in the state - they are some of the best. It's definitely not the most beautiful space, but you could give birth in a closet and as long as you have the right support that's what matters. The great thing about Memorial is that they only do about 400 births a year, so you get lots of personalized attention and don't have to deal with rigid hospital policies. It is also a training hospital for Family Practice docs - who generally have much lower rates of intervention than OBs. Memorial is also the ONLY hospital in RI that is Mother-Friendly certified.

But the truth is, when you're actually in labor all of the external things won't matter...

You can also check out the RI Birth Network for more information on birthing in RI.

Good luck!
