Where To Buy Organic, Fair Trade Clothing

Where do you buy organic, fair trade clothing for Mom, Dad, & Child (4 yrs.)?

A few years ago, I made a commitment to buying only organic produce, which has taken some extra planning but has been very worthwhile and rewarding for me.

I recently decided that I really wanted to make each dollar we pay for clothing to be a vote for what I believe in and want to support.

Now, I've gotta do some extra planning to make this work for us, as we live in a rural with no organic clothing stores nearby yet.

You might want to try greenpages.org to find companies that sell organic/free trade items of all kinds. It is a "green" directory and many of the companies do mail order. Co-op America created the Green Pages and it is really a wonderful resource. I noticed that Sierra Club now has a small line of clothing made from organic and/or recycled materials. As with making the switch to organic food, it may take a while to find sources for everything you want. I know there is a company called Maggies that makes organic socks and underwear. I have bought them through the co-op that I used to belong to. Maybe they have a website? organic clothing is amazingly expensive so you might want to consider used clothing sources as an adjunct to organics. thrift stores and yard sales abound with quality used clothing that would otherwise be dumped. Used clothing is also a good source for material to make new clothing. OK, I'll stop talking now!

Organic Clothing

Round Belly Clothing at roundbelly.com has the only organic maternity and nursing clothes that I know of. They are also working on introducing a really cute childern's line. Based on organic corderoy and ecospun fleece. My child wore the prototype to school today and I was flabergasted at how cute it turned out!

Round Belly has plans to sell organic kid's clothes from 2t-12 and maby start a man's line with clothes for ecocouncious males (and thier female buyers)!

Anyways, if you haven't guessed Round Belly is me- adn I'd love to help you with outfitting your family organically. I can special order anything you need (even before it hits production line) so please let me know what I can help you with.
