blueRhino - Congratulations!!!! Have a happy, healthy, and completely boring pregnancy.

biomama - ha, the self-IUI is a great story! good luck in the tww!

Lola, I'm sorry to hear about your MIL. That has to be rough on you and DH. I hope you can be understanding - there's nothing in the world like losing a parent.

LibbyLou, welcome! I'm sorry you have to be here, but hope you get the support you are looking for.

blueyezz4 - enjoy your vacation!!

And me- I had a wonderful vacation, exactly what I needed. We went to the PA Rennaissance Faire, PA Amish Country, Hershey PA, and Harrisburg. We had a wonderful and relaxing time and I feel so much more ready to attack "real life" again.

to everyone who needs it

Hi Songbird- welcome back! Do you live in PA? I'm relatively close to Lancaster and Hershey.

You can change my info to TTC #2 since 7/07; Recently diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOS but trying to conceive naturally for a few cycles post surgical laparoscopy

When it rains....it pours. I called my insurance company and found out that they don't cover anything in regards to infertility. When we conceived Andrew. we were with a different insurance provider. I really feel like I am at my breaking point.

updated to here

Voltige, I live in Ohio, so going to PA was sort of a nice escape.

Gumby, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can come up with the money somehow. It's so hard when you put your heart and soul and financial stability on the line...
Songbird where in ohio do u live? I live in WV..20 minutes from ohio. I actually work in ohio.

Gumby our insurance does not pay for IVF or "anything used to impregnante a person" Whatever that means!! I think it sucks.. some states have mandatory IF coverage... they all should. :

AAM went for 3rd vag u/s in a week... cyst on the right is getting smaller. I got an hcg shot... but the dr said i might have actually already ovulated. he said the hcg shot won't hurt anything if i already o'd, but obviously can't get preg if I didn't O yet. My DH is being a butt munch today... he has never been 100% supportive of the whole infertility thing. That is the reason we TTC for 3 yrs w/ no medical interventions... now I feel like he needs to shut the h*ll up and let me do what i need to!! I know that prolly isn't the best attitude in the world... but crap! I did it his way for 3 yrs and got nowhere! ugh! men!!

I agree with you!
crystal-mommy, I agree too! It is really hard to be on a different page than your DH. Maybe he needs a little more time to get used to the idea of assisted reproduction...

gumby74, you poor thing. It's been a rough week, eh? I HATE that insurance companies don't pay for IF treatment. And often they will pay for diagnostics, which can even be a waste of $ and time if what you need is the same treatment, no matter what the cause of the IF. Ug. Hang in there sweetie.

songbird45, welcome back. Glad you had a nice trip! That sounds great. I wish we could sneak away somewhere...

how's everyone else??

I'm doing ok- we had our IVF consult appt yesterday, and we got a potential "target date" in mid-Nov. We have the option of mini- v. conventional-IVF. Mini is stims with clomid and low dose gonadotrophins, pg rate per cycle for my age group 32-35%, ~$12K. Conv. is regular IVF, pg rate ~50%, cost $15-17K depending on med doses.

I think we're going to try conventional. The costs even out if you divide by pg rate (so cost per pregnancy is roughly the same). I came home really excited and hopeful, but then DH started complaining about the $. If we had to do more than one IVF, it would wipe out our savings, which is scary of course... but I think worth it if we get our baby. I don't want to worry about the money.

I may call our insurance company and try to convince them to pay for some of it. Has anyone tried this?
Biomama: I think if it was me, I would go the conventional route as well. There really isn't much of a cost difference. Let me know if you are able to get the insurance company to budge at all. It might inspire me=)

DH thinks I should go through the HSG and then go from there. There is a chance that we will ahve to pay the entire 1300, but it could proove to be worth it in the end.
songbird it always seems funny when a place local to me is a vacation destination for someone else I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and found it relaxing. What did you do in Harrisburg? I usually want to get through that city as quickly as possible

gumby it sucks when insurance does not cover IF. Hopefully they will at least cover your HSG since that does not have to be fertility related, right? I know my laparoscopy was covered and not billed toward our fertility allowance.

crystal-mommy Infertility is so much more difficult without the support of our partners. I hope your DH comes around and realizes how much you need him right now.

biomama I agree that the conventional IVF sounds more promising without a real significant different in cost. Still, it's a lot of money. Any chance you know someone who has meds left over from an IVF cycle? It could significantly decrease your out of pocket expense

As for me, I think I'm in the tww- the first in a while. How quickly I forgot the stress and obsession This is my first cycle post laparoscopy and I was extremely crampy around the time of ovulation- it felt like I had heavy stones just sitting in my lower abdomen. I've never had any physical symptoms of O, so it's new if nothing else. My LP is typically only about 10 days so I should know by late next week. If AF shows, I start the cycle tracking with my RE and I am really hoping to avoid all of that. I'm also trying to stay positive while friend after friend announces a new pregnancy. I think every mother in my DS's play school class is either pregnant or newly post partum. It's just so difficult sometimes.

Just wanted to get my update in.
Finishing up my last pack of bcp. Have my b/l u/s on the 15th. Then I will start letrozole, then HCG trigger. Had my metformin raised to 1500/day and tolerating very well. This will be our first assisted cycle for TTC.

Hi Everyone........how are you all doing? Well, AF showed up this morning...it's only day 20 since my last "weird" AF last month. DH and I are at odds with the plan for clomid and IUI this month (I know how you feel, crystal-mommy). I know he is still greiving (MIL passed recently) but now he is saying stuff like "I don't like prescribed sex.......don't think we should take pills to create a baby, etc." Very frustrating when after our visit with the RE he was all for it. ARRRGGGHHH!! Men!!

My DH had similar feelings when I started taking Clomid. I explained to him that I wasn't taking drugs to get pregnant, I was taking them to get my body to do what it should be doing on its own (ovulate), and that seemed to make it better for him.

My DH said the same things when we TTC#1. I finally ended up saying to him that the reality of our situation was that we had to be willing to do whatever it took to conceive. In the end, it was me who had to be poked and proded over and over and all he had to do was give a sample here and then. The sacrifice on my part seemed like a lot more than on his part and because of that we have a son. With TTC#2, we have ruled out the male factor and all of the issues seem to be mine......so, I figure that as long as I am willing to go through with all of this physical stuff, he can not complain about when and how we have to BD.
Can I hang out here? I was over in TTC land, but they still haven't added me and I guess this place is more appropriate for my anyway...

You need some background info or an introduction? I'm 34 and my DH Sean is 31. We are ttc our first. We started trying in June, 2007 right after I graduated with my bachelors degree in psychology. We are in the beginning stages of infertility testing. I've done one cycle of clomid so far and am currently in the tww. No verdict yet as to who is at fault.

OOOOHHHH!!! you are a smart woman!! never thought of putting it that way!! His famous saying "if its meant to be... it will happen naturally". My comeback, "Well, if that is true.. why do we have dr's and hospitals... ppl would still be dying from the common cold.. we have evolved for a reason!!" I have PCOS so obviously my body isn't functioning as it should be... not my fault. Which doesn't mean I deserve a baby any less than someone who can get preg everytime they even think of sperm!!

It is extremely frustrating when we only have a 2-3 day window to conceive each month.. my DH is hardly ever in the mood on those days. As soon as I start using OPKs his sex drive goes down hill quickly!! Every other day of the month I have to fight him off of me 2-3 times a day!

hope everyone has a good day!!
Well, I think AF is on her way. : My temps are still high, assuming I even ovulated, but my cervix is getting high and soft again. . . a very good indicator (for me) that I'll start bleeding within a couple of days.

Now I need to decide if I want to start cycle tracking with my RE this month or give it another whirl on our own. I was so hoping that cleaning out the endo with the laparoscopy would be our solution. Of course it doesn't help that we will be out of town for several days early in my cycle. I don't know how often he needs to see me in the beginning.
i am 29 y/o been trying to concieve for 3 years . Metformin didnt work and tracking didnt work. I dont ovulate i am overweight and using diet and excersize. Any ideas?
Lola, hugs, I hope your dh spirits will be lifted soon, and he can soon look to creating life after the mourning the loss of one.

oregonduck, bol with your testing, hope you can get some answers and an excellent course of action. Baby dust to you!

Voltage, fingers crossed this will be your month.

organitarian, have you seen a specialist yet? Do you have PCOS, is that why the metformin? If so a great diet IMHO is the south beach diet, it works, and helps with insulin resistance.

For me, I hit the goal my RE said. I have now lost 37 pounds. I am getting nervous about our first month of trying. For those of you who used a trigger shot. How was it the first time? DH will be gone so I will have to give it to myself, getting a little freaked out about that.

Baby dust to everyone!

Thank you all for the kind words and the advice. DH has "mellowed" a bit since we had our argument. Although he says he is not up for iui this month (we have to drive 3 hours to the clinic) he says he IS willing to have me do the clomid and BD. Of course, we will see what he is like when the time actually comes to do it..........

Looking forward to next month being a "normal" one, where we actually get to do iui.

Good luck to everyone!
