I recently purchased two Lands End rompers for my daughter, primarily to solve the pants-over-cloth-diaper dilemma. The second time she wore one of them (in other words, after a prewash and a regular wash), I noticed that it had a peculiar smell--a kind of burned chemical smell. I got the other one out of the drawer and sniffed it--same odor.
So I rewashed them both--no dice. I even tried the baking soda/vinegar/Biokleen combo suggested for removing flame retardants from pajamas--the smell remains. None of my other clothes smell this way. And, might I add, I even line-dried them after one wash to see if the dryer was "baking" in a smell--but that didn't help either.
What is this odor and how do I get rid of it? It's not overpowering by any means--in fact my husband thinks I'm nuts for worrying about it--but now that I know it's there, I'm obsessed with getting it out. I don't like the idea of whatever it is that's causing that smell being against Mallory's skin. And it's particularly noticeable when we cuddle or nurse (because I'm so close to her then, obviously).
So what should I try next? I'm thinking maybe a long soak in Oxiclean? Any other ideas?
Thanks!
