This post comes a little late, but I have been pretty captivated by someone special!

My water broke in the early morning hours of August 13th (10 days before my DD). Since I had GBS, I was put on antibiotics the next afternoon with regular monitoring. My midwife and her students came to our home the next evening and although my contractions kicked in nothing else had progressed. DH and I breathed through a night of contractions and didn't really get much sleep. The team came back the next afternoon and said they were there to stay until she was born. (It happened to be my own birthday, but that was just a passing mention since other birthdays seemed to take precedence!)

I think I started pushing at 5:00 pm on the 14th. We tried a number of different positions to move her down but nothing was helping her move beyond the slight crowning without receding right back inside. At 10:00 pm, I chose to go to the hospital. I was exhausted and started to get discouraged. I needed to know a different strategy was available to us. My midwife agreed that we might not have much better results by staying at home, so we transferred to a nearby hospital. As we got into the car, the midwife got a call from another patient who was due on the 23rd and in labor. She escorted me to the delivery room and then left to join the other family, leaving one of her students behind to act as my support.

Two young doctors came in to see my situation. My baby must have moved even lower because on my first push, they told me I could likely push this baby out myself. I was doubting them but also wanting to avoid any epidurals, pitocin shots, or other measures if possible. They got the lead doctor to come in and after seeing me push through another contraction, he confirmed that I could push her out with the help of a slight incision. Before they had even touched me, baby's head was crowning. On the next push, she made her entrance! We had our natural childbirth experience after all.

We are definitely in love with this wonderful little being. We are so thankful that she is happy and healthy!
