socks?

I'm thinking of trying my hand at some socks for me and dh this holiday season. I'm pretty good at kitchener (diaper cover seams), but I'm still quite nervous. Any suggestions or words of wisdom? Any easy patterns?

Thanks!

I just finished a sock class at my LYS and we did socks using a worsted weight yarn. It was very easy to work with. Are you on ravelry? There's tons of free patterns. Also I love the Silver's sock class site. She rocks and I think you get a "pattern" in her tut and you can whatever size yarn you want. Good luck! socks are fun and addictive.

sabrinat, what pattern did you use with the worsted weight yarn?

Do it! ETA with Sabrina in that socks are fun and totally addictive, and they range from easy (stockinette or ribbed) to very complicated patterns, so there's always something to keep your attention. Lots of different heels and toes to keep you busy too. Just find a good pattern (you might also want to try Socknitters or some of Nancy Bush's books) and follow it, at least until you learn the basics, then you can branch out and do your own thing. Socks are almost all I knit (save the occasional hat), and I usually have at least 2 or 3 pairs OTN. They're great, fun, portable, and really impressive. Oh - the other piece of advice I have is to knit both socks at the same time, either on 2 circs or on 2 sets of DPNs (knit one cuff, then the other, then one leg, then the other, etc.). HTH!

I'd start with the socks on DPNs on cometosilver.com in worsted weight

If you want something wiht a little pattern, there is a worsted weight bed sock pattern in one skein (cable footies)

Then I'd move to DK wt socks, waterloose is a good pattern for that.

I learned from Cat Bordhi's book:
