Non-vaxers, do you dk's get the flu shot?

My doctor is very supportive about my non-vaxing stance, and while she says she'll ask every appointment if we want to vax that appointment, she isn't pushing it at all. Did I mention, I love her? :

At our last appointment a month ago, for ds's six month visit, she said that even though we don't vax, she'd highly recommend him getting the flu shot this year, and that he'll need two doses, one in October, the other a month later, in November. I'm really on the fence about the flu shot, as I know it's a guessing game which strains will be active in any given year, and they do contain mercury and formaldehyde and a few other questionable ingredients.

I have a weakened immune system, so I'll be getting the shot myself, but I just don't know whether or not to get it for ds.

Do you get it for your dk's? Why or why not?

Thanks!!

Nope. Basically because no matter what we (my DH and I) always end up getting the flu, regardless of whether we get the shot or not.

We never have and don't plan on it. If I worked with the elderly, I may, but otherwise no. If we get it, we're sick for a week, not a big deal for us. None of us have gotten the flu in the last three or four years anyway.

Never had it, never will.

Nope. We've never gotten the shot and have no intention to.

We don't vaccinate. The flu shot is a vaccine. Therefore, no one in our family gets it.

I got it once when I was pregnant with DD. I got the flu the worst I've ever had it in my life that year. I think it's a bunch of bunk.

This one's at the bottom of my list (maybe tied with Rotavirus). I have concerns about the mercury or the flumist's live and shedding status, the low rates of effectiveness, the marketing, and the lack of lowered flu deaths in vaxed populations. It doesn't seem to be saving lives. And besides, there are very good alternative ways to prevent the flu that are effective, convenient, cheap, and risk-free.

no. i'm not that worried about the flu. personally i've never had the flu, DH has never had the flu, and i'm pretty sure that even if we all got the flu, we'd make it through it just fine

Not taking the shot... no way, no how. All of us have had the flu over the years and we muddled through. Would rather muddle again than take the mercury shot every year and only maybe have protection.

Absolutely not. The flu vaccine is HIGHLY ineffective. Since each of our vaccine decisions is based on a risk/benefit analysis and the benefit of a ineffective vaccine against a mild disease is nearly nil, I can't imagine choosing to use the flu vax.

Nope! It has never helped me one bit. As a kid I was forced (literally held down and forced) to get it, but I would still get sick. They would always respond, "Just think how much worse it would have been without the flu shot."

I'll never get another one, and I'll never have my kids injected with one.

Nope

Nope, and its being offered at the schools here.Since its just a guess as to what might be out it usually is never the right guess and if I'm going to get sick it'll happen. My mom gets it every year saying that since she works with immune compromised people and was taking care of her mom before she died it works out but always makes her soooo ill she might as well just have not gotten it and stayed home to not spread it.
We travel back and forth cross country and live in HI and we aren't doing it.

In children under two it has the same effectiveness as a placebo.

And, how about this:

No controlled trials demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with FLUARIX have been performed.
This one still contains thimerosol:

Inactivated influenza vaccine distributed in the United States also contains thimerosal, a mercury-containing
compound, as the preservative.

Certainly not.

No way. Egg allergies aside, still no way.

Also, from my pov, if you have a compromised immune system, all that junk(ingredients) could crash ones system.

I think it's hard, when a doc seems very okay w/o vaxing, then along comes one....and the sell is put out there. It can rattle ones decisions, for sure.

Nope even if dd wasnt allergic to eggs, she wouldnt get it. If I take ds in sick since I do not do WBV the dr asks if I want one for him even if he is running a fever and sick with upper resp or ear infection. (thought sick kids were not supposed to get vax but anymore it appears anything goes) :

I have never had one but dh gets it every year and ends up sick as a dog within a week after : cant get him to see what he is doing. I have never had one myself but survived the flu both times I had it.

Mom never got the flu shot for us because the one time she got the flu shot she thought she was gonna die with the flu never been that sick before or since and has had the flu several times.

They give the shot and the nasal spray for free at the school so I have to keep dd home that day because the nasal one is live thus can spread and I fear they will give her the shot anyway : Big PITA since they are so stricked on missing days.

No no no no no no...

Ironically, when dh was still pro-vax he refused to get this shot because he always became ill (with flu-like symptoms ) days after.
