Non-vaxers, do you dk's get the flu shot? - Page 5

The title was a little explained already. A question asked and answered. I was happy it came up though, because some of us who were at one time in the dark did vaccs at one time and then (heavenly chime... Ding) the little light turns on. So I am nonvaccing, don't ever plan on it, and hope my children realize this as well, save my grandbabies from them as well. I don't like the push for flu vaccine either! This is making me wonder in all honesty.

There is NO way I would give my kiddo the flu shot. I wouldn't even do it if we were a vax-ing family.

NO! Dh and I have never had the flu shot in our lives and only very very rarely have ever got the flu. I don't think it's necessary and my son will never get one. We are all very healthy and can easily fight off the flu.

This may have already been said, but I didn't have time to read all the posts. I am so not trying to judge here, but want to understand. Why did you choose not to vaccinate in the first place? If you are like me then you choose not to vaccinate because you don't believe in ANY of them. So, then why would you choose to do any of them if your opposed to them? Again, I'm just trying to understand. I have heard other moms say something similar and I'm curious if it's due to them feeling safe with the whole herd theory. I get that some moms are selective vaxers and I totally get that. What I don't get though are things like this were you are a nonvaxer, but are questioning if you should get the flu vax. I guess it's possible you didn't know the info that most people still get the flu even after getting the shot. Help me out here though non vax mamas. Why would you get a vax if you were going over seas if you wouldn't vax here? Again is it the whole herd thing your comfortable with here? Sorry, I get a little aggrivated about the herd thing because I am so sick and tired of getting lumped in with that. Thanks ladies, I just want to understand.

Nope. And that sure sounds like she is pushing a vax. And pushing that vax, of all of them, on a child under 2, sounds like she doesn't actually know all that much about vaccines to begin with.

I am glad you are having a good experience with her, but just be on your guard for the "pet vax." It seems like lots of peds will make a lot of noise about supporting a non-vax stance, and use this approach to make their "just this one" suggestion seem like it is somehow in line with the parent's philosophy.

It's mostly that I have researched all the "standard" childhood vaccines, and based my decision not to vax based on the information I have found, and what I feel comfortable with, especially disease rates for vaxed or nonvaxed children, side effects, effectiveness, and yes, some of the "herd mentality" applies. But the flu is much more common than, say, the mumps or diptheria, and not knowing much about the flu vax, because it tends to get overlooked in all of the books and literature I have found, I was looking for opinions on whether it was a safe vax to get. I am not one to do what the doctor suggests simply because she suggests it, which is why I came here looking for info and opinions. And for the record, after reading all of the replies, and all of the included links, we will not be getting the flu shot.

It's always neat for me to hear why other moms came to the decision that they have regarding vaccines. I think for many of us our gut or instincts just tell us not to. It's a hard decision I know because there is always someone out there trying to freak us out about how bad the diseases are. I just recently checked th VAERS site and it's interesting to me how so many kids got the disease they were trying to prevent just by getting the vaccine. The more I research the more I know my decision is right. I do understand though how talking to someone you trust can make you question your decision. I think if my chiropractor suggested any of the vaccines I would fall out of my chair. I am still very confident about my decision though. Thanks for sharing with me.

We now selectively vax but even before I knew anything about vax I was already against the flu-vax. We never had the flu and people that I know that take the vax did get the flu somehow. Now I know more about vax and I am still against the flu vax.
In NJ it is now in the schedule, I am happy I have an exemption!

No way

The few times that I got the flu shot I got "flu-like symptoms" immediately afterward. Of course, no doctor would admit any connection--the medical establishment holds firm to the belief that the flu shot cannot and does not cause the flu.

Last year my entire family got the flu. Yeah, we were miserable for a few days and my dh missed a couple days of work. But we recovered with no problems. I'd rather take my chances on the flu again this year--IMHO the flu shot is more dangerous than the flu.

Never - in canada it's one of the few that haven't even had the mercury removed... I think it's the stupidest one, ineffective and unessecary.
