Does anyone have one? I'm trying to remember all the vax I got as a kid, but I can't find my vaccine hx in my baby book. I am delaying my DD's vax, and may not ever get any for her....I'm still new to the research on it, but I'd love to know the vax that were recommended in the early 1980's if anyone would share. Thanks!!

I don't have the link at hand, but in that era it was basically, DPT, MMR and polio (OPV)

If you do a Goggle Image search, you can find the ad that ran in USA Today - 2 needles, one with the shorter list of vaxes required in the 80's (I think?) , and the other a huge list of vaxes required today.

I also think the nvic has that info. It seems i remember reading a long time ago, that they state the history-including dates/times/years,etc...of the vaxes.

Scroll down a little. You'll see the one from 1983

MMR, DTP, polio. HIB was required for some daycare/headstart programs.

At least that is what my vaccination card says. I was born in 1980.

Nope- Hib was not first licensed until 1985. And not reformulated for use unde 18mo until 1987.

Just wanted to note that it's a good idea to consider what you got (and didn't) as a kid if you were vaccinated.
My vaccinations were just a few as the typical schedule in the 70's were. I was just chatting to my mom about this the other day and how crazy the schedule is now. Things haven't changed much in terms of illnesses but the profits for drug/vaccination companies have.

I bow to your superior knowledge. I was just going off my vax record. I did not receive Hib, it was just listed on my record as an option for headstart/daycare. I suppose the card is one I got in 1989 when we moved to a new state.

I was born in 81!

here's what mine says

DTP
Polio
MMR

Later in life I received Hib, Hep B and boosters (DT and Td)

ahhh, if only it were so simple these days

I don't have my card, but I'm pretty sure I got

DTP
Polio (one dose at least oral! I remember the orange taste!)
MMR

My mom says she probably wouldn't have done them if the list looks like it does now...she said it was just a few then.

And you know what...I probably wouldn't have thought much about it then, either. With my current thought processes about such things I would still not vax, of course, but if I were my mom then, 3 shots wouldn't have prompted me to feel that it was excessive.

I was born in 1975, and I have my tiny little credit card size vax. card here. It reads: MMR, DTP, Polio. That's all folks!

I graduated high school in 1981.

ditto for '77 - i was having a conversation about vaxxing with my family a few years ago, and my grandmother was initially all weirded out with me delaying/avoiding for the kids - until she found out the sheer number of diseases they're vaxxing for these days. for a woman who saw her kids get more serious diseases, she was shocked that they vaccinate for chicken pox.

I got polio (IPV), DT, and MMR... mom wouldn't get the DPT or the OPV causee' she'd read about them

History of the vaccine schedule

Reading through the following link makes me physically ill as I see the number of recommended vaccines grow bigger and bigger ...

http://pediatrics.about.com/gi/dynam...m%23Book%25203

I don't think the schedule changed much from the mid 70's to the early 80's, basically dpt, polio and MMR. The next change was the HIB which appeared on the 1989 schedule.

My children born in the early 80's got about 23 doses of vaccines by the time they started school, my child born in the mid 90's got about 21 doses by the age of 18 months!!

I shudder to think what today's children are subjected to by the time they start school, I think it's over 50 now!!

I got one dose of this despite it being contraindicated (I was 5 and a half). :

I am from the former eastern block and still have my complete Vax booklet, I was born 1980- and we even got TB, at least that's what it says in my booklet. TB??? That's just nuts. And I even recall SEVERAL oral doses of polio, it was a mass production in school without parents being present and I think I got more than I was supposed to get, because I also have several injected Polio vaxes documented.

All in all, I just shudder looking at my vax card. But coming to the US was not much better, the "civil surgeon" bullied me into receiving TDP and Hep A AND Hep B in one day. God awful.
