I'm pretty sure the IPV's been around for a LONG time, it just wasn't used - you had to special request it kind of deal. Could be wrong though. I'm 24, for the record

Hmm, I'm not so sure. I think when they decided to switch to the IPV it was a big deal and such...

gave me something new to go research though!

ahHA! found it. The IPV was licensed in 1990 (both created in the 50s, but I gather IPV wasn't an option for awhile there until 1990 brought it back)

So since I was in high school by then it wasn't a choice. You're a touch younger

My schedule lists it as OPV/IPV (born in 81). interesting. I'm assuming I still got the oral since it was in '82, '82, '83, '86.

Interesting.

This site says the new IPV came out in 88

maybe they just copied my old vaccine info onto a newer sheet or something. In fact i'm thinking they did because there are no signatures on there from my mom until '94. weird. that would never fly today, huh?

My records say I got the IPV in 86 and 88, respectively... mom claims my brother (born 5/82) got the IPV too and NOT the OPV... (not that I've personally seen his records... so who knows!!

ETA: wikipedia says the CURRENT IPV was licesned in 87, but there was also an IPV used 'extensivly' till (through?) the 60s... so it could have still been around, just mostly not used??

Either way, looking at my records I definetly didn't get as many doses as 'recommended' Only 2 of polio and like 3 DT total, and I think only one MMR!!

The initial schedule, introduced in 1960, was of three doses of plain (i.e. no aluminium adjuvant) diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTP) vaccine administered at 3, 4, and 5 months of age. When vaccine with aluminium hydroxide adjuvant became available in 1971, the 4-month dose was omitted as it was felt that the two doses of adjuvant vaccine would provide similar protection to three doses of plain vaccine and exhibit fewer adverse effects.1

Wow, I had very little vaxing in NZ. I was born in 72.
