Anyone make milk soap?

I'd like to try making my own bar soap with cow milk. I'm reading some books and websites, and it looks like something I could do. I work in a dairy plant, so I could get fresh 40% cream, my boss would probably just give me some if I asked.

I'm thinking a superfatted real cream soap would be just wonderful for the coming winter!

I am no expert but I am going to assume you can use it just like goats milk in soap?

If so I have a few recipes for that.

Yeah, cow milk and goat milk are interchangeable. But I wonder if anyone has used such a high fat cream. Whole cow milk is only 3 to 4 percent fat. Can you post your recipes?

do you think I could use my milk? I have so much frozen that I've pumped and I don't think I'll be able to use it all up now. I think breast milk is really high in fat, right?

I think the % fat in human milk is similar to cow's milk.

...so no one here makes soap with cream?

Sure you could use it. You could use it for all of your water or half of your water or make a strong lye solution and add your cream at trace.

Cream in soap is very nice

Yes, moms have made soap with their breastmilk. You can keep a lot of it frozen when adding the lye, as it will melt that quickly. But another thought would be donating to moms who have supply issues. Just a thought, Sue

while the idea of milk soap is inviting, i would encourage you to learn basic soapmaking processes first before tackling milk soap. it's a bit different to work with.

www.millersoap.com is a wealth of soapmaking info. have fun and remember, lye is not something to fear, but rather respect.
