One twin home from the hospital!

we brought Addison home yesterday, after 81 days in the nicu. He was born weighing 1lb. 5.2oz. (602 grams) and left weighing 4lbs. 5.3oz. (1964 grams). He measured 12.25" (31cm) long and his head was 22.5cm. Yesterday he measured 16.9" (43cm) with a head circumfrence of 31.5cm. The doctors and nurses at the nicu have been fantastic. Him and his brother had a 50% chance of survival when they were born at 25w4d. If they survived, we were told of a whole long list of medical problems they would more than likely have. They dodged brain bleeds, heart murmurs (Addison had one that went away a few days after birth), and only have mild ROP that will be watched by the pediatric opthamologist but it's nowhere near needing lasar surgery. Their lungs are on the mend from their chronic lung disease, and probably some of the best news is that they both nurse! They still get some bottles for their vitamins and Addison is on Zantac for reflux but I feel pretty darn lucky.
Riley is actually ahead of Addison on just about everything but he is almost a pound smaller than Addison so he only got moved to an open crib at 3am this morning. If he does well, we should expect him to come home this coming Monday!
After my afternoon nicu visit, I'm going to come home and start baking cookies, brownies, and muffins to take to the nicu tomorrow. We were going to buy food but we couldn't think of something that we thought would be perfect so I'm going to make a variety instead

I am so glad that they have managed to dodge a lot of preemie health problems. I know that you can't wait to have them both home.

Other boy came home Friday the 11th. Born weighing 1lb. 3oz (540 grams) and left weighing 3lbs. 12oz. (1698 grams).
They're making up for their time apart and snuggling whenever they together. They're both nursing relatiley well and Addison will sometimes nurse without the nipple shield. Both on apnea monitors which are a slight pain in the rear but a small price to pay for having my micropreemies, who had a 50% chance of survival, be home and healthy

We came home on O2 so we had the apnea monitor and I actually slept better because of it.

Congratulations, and I agree 1000%. It sounds like both your boys are doing great, and now the real craziness can begin!

I've had a little time today to read through your blog. Amazing story. I'm so happy your little boys are doing well!

Although I know they've beat many odds, it's really encouraging to read their story as I'm sitting here on bed rest trying to stay pregnant with a baby who is probably about the size they were at birth. I hope everything continues to go well for your family!
