A new bellydance tribe!

Thread Starter
With the reorganization, this seems like a good time to start a new tribe thread! I've just finished a move up to Montana, and have connected with the dancers up here. Last night we danced for the monthly Art Walk, which was a lot of fun, and I'm slowly getting back into my costumes after the birth of the new little one.
I've been attending a class weekly with one of the dancers up here, and she and I are meeting to practice together once a week at the college. We're also working on getting more students involved, and I'm planning a couple of workshops.
How's everyone else doing?

Thanks for starting this athansor!:
Lots of dancing here! I've been practicing weekly with the troupe I'm in. We performed not too long ago and will do some stuff this fall, not sure what that will entail though! I want to get some new melodias so I need to save some money! A friend in our troupe recently made me some really pretty panels and I've been using that as far as a belt goes. It's fun to dance in new stuff! I'm looking forward to reading everyone's posts!
Namaste!

I'm here! I'm here! Haven't posted in some time but I - am - here!

Dancin' like a maniac. Much to share! Most exciting thing at the moment:

OPENING MY OWN STUDIO!!!

Any great name ideas?

Must be:
--pronounceable in Spanish
--have coolness dripping from it
--goddess stuff welcome
--short n sweet

I'm thinking about Ghaziya, plural of ghawazee. I like it, but it's kind of strange in Spanish. Just a bit.

So, lots of construction and money (outflux) happening in my world, I'm remodeling a little place in a great location.

Oh my goodness so glad I found this tribe!!

I took a few months of classes and LOVED it but my teacher moved and I'm just too lazy to drive 30 minutes every week. Yeah I know, I'm bad. But I'm preggers again! : So I want to start up with BD again. Any video suggestions? I do want to go back to class but after the quiziness ends.

Yeah I am so happy to find this group!!

I have been dancing for approx 2 1/2 years (more if I didn't have to take a break thanks to a car accident) in several styles of traditional and fusion belly dance. Now I am 10 weeks and excited about keeping up with my dancing during my pregnancy.

I take 3 hours of class a week, and mostly perform with my class or as a soloist. This week we have two performances, with me doing a Cane Dance, a Gothic Dance and a Solo Gothic Dance.

I was going to get a new tribal fusion bra and a new caberet costume, but it's probably a good thing I put it off, since I have no idea what my bust and waist are going to be after all this!!!

BTW does any one know if this is a good DVD for pregnant dancers? http://www.amazon.com/Prenatal-Belly.../dp/B000E6GDXS

There used to be a bellydancing tribe around here somewhere so good to see your post! i have been dancing for about 12 years and LOVE it: I danced throughout both of my pregnancies and with DD performed my last performance at 35 weeks It was wonderful.

Yeah there are some dancers here!!!

Columbusmomma stories like yours give me hope I will get to dance long into my pregnancy too! I love dancing and it really feels great for my body. Basically I want to dance as long as my body will let me since I know the excersize and moves should help me heal after too!

Yeah to ATS! That is one of the styles I perform it is so fun! I love to go to events and be able to jump in with other dancers and also to get to learn new combos from dancers too!

Shimmy on!

Belly Baby

Has anyone checked out Veena & Neena's (well really it's just Neena) 'Belly Baby' DVD? If so, what did you think?
For those that are curious, here's a link to it in Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Veena-Neena-Pr...3362283&sr=8-1

I haven't tried it, I wish amazon had some reviews because it looks pretty good. I keep debating buying a video to help see what moves I should and shouldn't do.

But since I am still taking classes its not a big rush. I did learn that one new move is a no-no and I am still learning not to push myself. Taking it easy is hard.

I'm gonna just break down and get it! I'll let you know what I think when I do...

Oh Oh! What move did you learn was a no-no 'cause I haven't heard of any and I've been WAY curious about that!

Some people suggest against fast shimmies. I was doing a "washing machine" type of side to side shimmy. It felt like it was really rocking my insides and felt almost sore in my low pelvis, so I knew to stop. I will be watching my knee generated shimmies and my speed to make sure they dont feel the same. Everything else has felt ok for me to do in class, so mostly I am just watching my own body right now and doing only what feels good.

I've heard that too - but only sort of so thanks for that! I always do the side to side washing machine style shimmies REALLY slow but yeah I need to pay attention to all shimmying. Thanks!:

I really want to get that dvd but have you or has anyone else on this thread actually ordered from her site? I only ask because at the checkout it shows it's 'safe' on her site but NOT on my comp which it usually does at the check out so I just wanted to know what other people's experience is. I wouldn't be so concerned but my mom is the one buying it for me and I'm a tad more conservative when it's not my credit card....
TIA!

Bellydancer for four years chiming in! I danced throughout my pregnancy with my 2yo DD, even performing at 36 weeks. I'm planning to keep going through this pregnancy too, as I felt good throughout and felt it kept me active and fit.

Happy shimmies!

I did some simple hip circles and things while I was in early labor, and felt it really helped me to relax my lower back and maybe let my little one move down easier. I'm interested to see what I feel like doing in labor this time around...maybe have a birth hafla?!
