Best austin neighborhoods for families...

We are considering a move to Austin, and would love to know what neighborhoods to look in. We won't go over $400k, I'd love to live in a more natural area... want to be able to alk out my door with the kids and go somewhere worthwhile... parks, museums, natural markets.

Any suggestions where to start?

if you have up to 400k to spend than you would do well in the 78704 zip code. very hip, very close to everthing. lots of people walking/biking to get places.
good luck!

You can't really walk anywhere besides school or a park up here in suburban hell aka far North Austin, but lmk if you move here!!!

With $400k you can go to a lot of great neighborhoods. Heck, with $400k I'd be shopping for a house in Austin rather than San Marcos myself.
78704/South Congress area is a great neighborhood. You might also like the rapidly gentrifying east side. Hyde Park and Clarksville may actually be a bit too expensive, come to think of it.
Just stay north of Hwy 71 and south of 183, and you'll be in a good place.

Some of the other posts did reference some of the hipper neighborhoods that are great. But here are some others: 78704 was mentioned (Travis Heights, Bouldin Creek), also check out the Barton Hills neighborhood, it rises above Zilker Park, you might find something, maybe, in Clarksville. Look in Hyde Park, there are large homes in the $850k range but also a ton of homes in the $300k range. Also try French Place and the neighborhood that runs along Shoal Creek from 38th north to Anderson Lane. And the neighborhood that runs south of 38th, between Lamar and Mopac. Your realtor should be able to decipher that for you. All of these neighborhoods have large trees, some have large lots, and all have plenty of places to walk to. Enjoy.
