Amnesty cancels membership of Intactivist!

This is the letter I wrote to them:

To William F. Schulz:

Amnesty International's vision is: a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration....to end grave abuses...physical and mental integrity...freedom from discrimination...

Does that vision include infant boys? Yes or No?

Circumcision amputates flesh and causes great physical pain. It causes loss of a function and psychological harm.

Every World Health Organization states: It is medically unnecessary.

Female Circumcision was outlawed in 1995 by the Female Genital Mutilation Act.
But baby boys are being tortured and mutilated by circumcision every minute of the day.

Why are only half of our children protected under these laws? This is gender bias!

Amnesty is violating one of their main tenets: discrimination based on gender.

Why does Amnesty not grant baby boys the full rights of a human being?
I am disappointed. Amnesty's integrity is suspicious.

Circumcision is illegal according to the 5th and 14th Amendments.

Article V of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights:

"NO ONE SHALL BE SUBJECTED TO TORTURE!"

This is my fifth time writing concerning this issue and I am still awaiting your answer.

And this is their answer which I got today (finally):

Thanks for writing and letting us know you wish to cancel your membership. We are sorry to lose your support, but that is your decision and we will make sure we delete your name and address from our files.

We are sorry you are disappointed that ANmesty International has not taken up this issue. AI is a democratic organization and changes/developments come from within our membership. (END)

Well, what do you think of that? I did not cancel my membership, they canceled me. They do not want any part of "this issue". They can't even write what issue it is. I am very disappointed in AI. What motivates them to omit infant boys in their human rights declaration?

Hmm, that's really strange. I guess they don't want your $$$, then, do they! I'm proud of you for sending them that letter, though!

(PS. I don't think you're supposed to quote their actual reply without their permission.)

Huh? When someone sends you a letter, it becomes your property and you may quote it to whomever you please. Am I misunderstanding you?

That sounds like a "canned" response, ie. a form letter pre-composed to respond to numerous situations. It sounds like someone pulled out the wrong form letter in response to your letter. There is also the possibility that the person answering your letter has some very strong feelings about circumcision and took an inappropriate action.

devrock, the person who writes the letter is the owner of the words, the copyright holder.

My understanding is that when someone mails something to you it becomes your property and you may do whatever you want with it. Especially a letter, addressed to you. The only legal exceptions I'm aware of are confidential medical information communicated from a client to a doctor or confidential legal information communicated from a client to an attorney.

You can't pass the words off as your own, but you certainly have the right to quote it, as long as you say who wrote it. It's just like repeating something verbally that someone has said to you verbally.

I would think if I receive a letter, it is then my letter, and I am permitted to show it to my friends.

That's what I did!

Nothing more, nothing less.

Frank,

I think that's what happened. Especially since today I received some new solicitation. LOL

I wasn't trying to be rude; I was trying to quote the User Agreement for MDC:

but actually, it does state to refrain from posting private emails, and I'm not sure if snail-mail letters fall into that same category, or not.

Anyway, good for you for sending your letter!

Oh no Julie,

I took absolutely no offense to what you posted. As a matter of fact, I was wondering myself before I posted it and I revised it several times. This is a sue-crazy country. And our freedom of speech belongs to those who own the press...

Like I said, no offense taken.

Why does Gitti show up as a guest on this thread, but on others all the user information is there?

I've read this has happened to someone else recently, not sure where, but the same letter.

I would send them the letter again - and again....

Bravo for sending it to them in the first place!

I just got my Amnesty International USA membership renewal form in the mail, and I sent it back marked "I am not renewing my membership because I heard that you do not oppose male circumcision."

I just sent a similar letter to ACLU protesting circumcision and their lack of involvement, as well as their absence in defending the option to refuse vaccination.

Hey, I have no clue why I'm considered a 'guest' her. Have to talk to Cynthia.

WOW! that was quick. I am now a 'member'. :LOL
