Contractions??

Okay, I officially have myself crazy with fear that I will not know if/when I am having a contraction or in labor. My midwife told me that I will just know but I am not convinced. My stomach has tightened up a few times (not consistenly) but with no pain or cramping. Is that a contraction? Also, my back was killing me last night but it wasn't my lower back. Where would "back labor" hurt? I just keep thinking about the woman who recently gave birth on a street corner b/c she didn't realize she was in labor. Am I the only one with this fear? Some guidance please!!!!

It is... but it's a Braxton Hicks contraction. I get those all the time. They're nothing to worry about. I think they're funny to watch though cus sometimes my belly will tighten in a funny shape. Today one of them looked like a box! hehe.

Yup, what funfunkyfantastic said. My stomach totally does that too, mostly it's just some odd oblong shape depending on baby's position, but it's definitely funny.

Don't worry, it's the rare person who doesn't know when they are in true labor. When in doubt, call the m/w. I was afraid I wouldn't know with DD2, since I was induced with DD1, but I knew. It took a little while, but as soon as I saw bloody show and started to throw up, I had no doubts.
