I am looking into going back to school and getting a massage therapist certificate. I would eventually like to focus on pregnant post pregnant moms and infants and offer that along with childbirth education (long way down the line ) but wanted to know if anyone has experience as a massage therapist and can let me know if it worked/works well for them and family
thanks!

I'm an LMT but not practicing. I loved it, but it was too hard on my hands. That's the biggest issue with massage, the ergonomics are very poor and it's murder on your hands.

I love that I went to school for it, I learned so much but it's not a career for me.

one more thing!

Big important questions. Is the money okay? I am a single mom needing to balance time with my kids and surviving.
Is it emotionally draining?

I'm an LMT but also not practicing. I liked it but kinda got burned out on it. I have $15,000 in loans from going to massage school but I'm not working as an LMT so in a way it seems like a waste to me, although I learned a ton and met a lot of neat people.

I worked in a wellness center and then I worked as an independent contractor for a chiropractic company. The money was good but I live in nevada and a lot of people have a very wrong idea about massage, probably because of the brothels and prostitution here. I went to school in Oregon where that idea doesn't really exist so I think if I lived there where alternative therapies are much more common and my kiddos were much older then I would definitely get into it again.

It was physically hard on me, my back and hands would hurt often. How old are your kids?

nak..

I was, until July when I dropped my license. I never practiced full time but enjoyed some part time work from time to time. A few years ago, I worked w/another therapist friend. We spent our weekends giving massages to tourists at B & Bs. The $ was excellent. I made more in one day than I made all week at my real job.

DH is also a massage therapist, and has just started practicing (out of our home) again. He specializes in sports injury & has also worked for several chiropractors over the past 10 years. (not very profitable for him.) I help him out w/the bus. end of his practice now, and have gotten some good marketing ideas from an online class.

I think your focus sounds great, and probably wouldn't be as physically/emotionally draining as other specialties. I actually found massage to be energizing.
