It's almost time for the Next Lake Orion Clothes Swap! September 25!

It’s almost time for the next Lake Orion Great Clothes Swap!!

When is it?: The Fall Swap is Thursday, September 25th, from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm

(Desperately seeking volunteers!!!!!!I can always use the most help for set up starting at 8:30am)

“What’s a clothes swap?” you might ask?

It’s FREE. It’s community in the best sense of the word. It’s neighbors helping one another. We bring what we have, and take what we need.

At home, we sort and fold clean clothes (clothes we wouldn’t mind putting on our family to go out in public) by size into boxes or bags. THEN, when we get to the swap, we sort the clothes by size onto marked tables. Next comes the fun part…

We go to the tables with the size clothes we are looking for…and take what we need. Free of charge. No strings attached. There are no minimums or maximums. Some families are looking to clean out the clothes they can no longer use, and they bring bags of clothes in--and sometimes just leave with one or two “special” things. Other families are really in need of clothes, and come with little or nothing, but leave with bags of clothes. Others bring what they took last season, for another family to take this time, and bring home another season‘s worth themselves to start the process again.

How can you participate? Look for clothes you might like to bring. Wash, fold, and sort them by size. Then call all of your friends and family and ask them to do the same…and come, singly or as a group, to the swap! Clothes swapping is even more fun when you can share your great finds with friends.

What sizes?: We take from preemie to size 16 in children’s clothes, as well as adult clothes, including maternity and nursing (breastfeeding) clothes.

Where is it?: Christ the Redeemer Catholic Community. The address is 2700 Waldon Road, Lake Orion, 48360. We’re on the North side of Waldon, East of Baldwin Road. Come in the main doors and there will be signs to lead you from there.

Any more questions? PM me! Please feel free to share this info!!!

On average, about 250 families participate...and just about everybody leaves with clothes! We find things as nice as Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger, and Osh Kosh, Childrens's Place, Carters, Gap, J Crew, Anne Taylor, you name it, it's there!...there are usually beautiful maternity clothes, often breastfeeding tops...and there are LOTS of playclothes, too, which is great for us, as, if we don't GIVE our kids play clothes, they'll make them from what they have!!!

SO, when you're cleaning out those closets this autumn, think of us, sort and bag them, and then join us on the 25th of September.

Very cool. Courtenay, thank you so much for posting about the swap -- I never would have known about it otherwise.

I was tickled to see my nursing tops and receiving blankets disappear as soon as I put them on the tables!

I am so glad you were all able to make it. It was a crazy busy day, but so many people participated! I counted over 200 before noon. And there were seven hours to go after that!!!

We had over thirty bags go to charity at the end, and half of those bags were the huge industrial sized bags that the church donates to us.

There were three or four families who left with six garbage bags full of clothes, and at one point a pastor from a nearby church came in with a shopping list for several families. She asked if, at the end, she could look for clothes for the kids. I asked her to please just look then...there were SO many clothes!!

I started the swap because I honestly can't afford to clothe my kids otherwise right now. But, I keep doing it because of all the people I see happily finding treasures and "perfect" items. For free! Who can beat free?!
