Fabric and pattern recommendations needed

Hi mamas,

I would like to sew a wet bag for our cloth diapers (a bag to take out with us in case of a mid-outing diaper change), but have no clue what kind of fabric I should use for the interior of the bag. It needs to be waterproof, I guess. I'm new to sewing...can you tell?

Additionally, I have a rocker/glider that I need to sew slip covers for. Any suggestions as to how I can go about making a pattern for them. Should I just take the cushions off the chair, trace them, and go from there?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jillian

for the wet bag, i believe you want to use PUL for that and remember you need to wash it on hot to seal the needle stitching so it wont leak.

for the glider, since you are new in sewing, i would make a test and not cut on your fancy fabric. i however would trace it and sew from there.

Yes, use PUL for the wet bag. You can buy it on eBay by the yard. I would recommend a drawstring top.

Yes, trace out the cushions. I'd make a muslin mock up as well. If the edges of the cushion are box cushion with a gusset they can be a pain to sew. You can make the top and bottom slightly bigger and pinch pleat the corners to create a faux box.

I recommend to all new seamstresses that you start recording all the sewing and quilting shows. Even if you don't like the project you'll learn neat tips and techniques! I have been sewing for years and still am learning neat things.

Sweet baby Jesus. I think I only understood every third word of the previous posts! Looks like I have a lot to learn!

Thanks for the tips,
Jillian
