Does student government count? :LOL
I'm a Student Bar Association (our equivalent of student government) delegate at my law school. My prior experience with student government was pretty silly - we didn't do much. This is a whole different ball game. I'm continually amazed at how much pull we have at the school.... everything from working with the design team for a new cafeteria to heavy participation in the selection process of our new Dean. It's a huge responsibility. Of course, there's also the potential for huge political fallout. Recently I've gotten my first taste of the nasty effects of yellow journalism. We have a debate going right now over whether or not refreshments should be served at our meetings. Someone introduced a very hollow resolution at the last meeting and we spent over an hour debating its merits

:. Our paper offered a very slanted account of the debate and now the entire student body (none of whom bother to actually attend our meetings and, thus, rely on the paper for information as to what goes on) is up in arms about the SBA allegedly 'misappropriating' funds that could go to benefit other student groups. This really irks the heck out of me as I also sit on the Appropriations committee and can't even begin to describe the amount of time and energy and frustration that goes into our appropriation of funds.... and I also know exactly how the majority of other student groups spend the money that is appropriated to them -- feeding themselves

:. I can't believe how much of a stink is being made about this very minor issue -- particularly as last year there was a very important resolution introduced about birth control and the university's student health plan and *no one* gave a lick.
Sorry... I'm ranting.
Anyway, yes I'm an elected official. And kind of disgruntled about it at the moment. (Can you tell?) :LOL
