New To Maine

Hi Moms,

I just recently moved to Maine from the Boston area. I was really active in the birth community down there- was practicing as a doula and home birth midwife and was submerged in an AWESOME community of women!

Now, I am taking some time off from work and am expecting my first in early November. I am hoping to get connected to some great, like-minded moms, birth people, whomever.

I am currently located in Monroe, ME which is near Bangor and Belfast. Anyone close that can lend me some tips on getting connected? Any good mother's groups nearby?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Gina- Welcome!! I think you will find a great niche here... Belfast is esp great. The midwives i used for my ds and who i taught cbe classes through have a new office and maternal wellness cntr. right next to the great Belfast Co-op. They're Morningstar Midwifery. There's a big AP community around- don't know much about Bangor, but definitely in the Belfast-Midcoast area.

How did you land in Monroe? I'm about 25 min. from Belfast, inland and south, in Appleton. We love it here. I grew up Maine, but lived in Ca for college and several years after. We returned when my dd was 3 m. I have the best community of friends here that I have ever had.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome to Maine! You are just in time for the best season of all! Fall!

I'll be using the morningstar midwives for my upcoming birth. Haven't met them yet but just as kelly said they come highly recommended!!
I think that a great place to start to find connections is the local La Leche League. I'm sure there is one in Belfast. I help out with the Camden area meetings. Also library story times are great to meet moms. I am in Union and there is a great community of moms here. I hope you find some in your area too!

Thanks

Thanks for the welcomes...

I grew up in CT and met my partner in Boston. He is up in school at Bangor, so that's how we landed in Monroe!

So far, it's beautiful and I am loving it.

My midwife is Chris Yentes, who lives here in Monroe also. I am really glad to have found her and I am really happy with her style.

I also have heard great things about morningstar midwives.

I will try to connect in with LLL and other groups! Thanks again for the welcomes.

Be well,
Gina
