worried (tmi? spotting...)

So, I've been spotting on and off for the past week. It's mostly been brown, and it's been light--nothing a bit of toilet paper or liner can't take care of. There was some red, but it was very brief, and I haven't had any cramping that I've noticed. I've been trying to be cautiously optimistic about it. Anyhow, what worries me is tonight when I was going to the bathroom I noticed this brownish tan blob come out, about the size and shape of a piece of chewed gum... Does anyone have any ideas? I need to get around to calling the doctor tomorrow, but now I'm not sure what I should make the appointment for... ugh. I'd still like to be cautiously optimistic, but on the other hand, I don't want to set myself up for more disappointment than I have to...

I don't have any explanation for you but I've been spotting too and I found this thread to be helpful. It's a bunch of stories of women that had all kinds of spotting & bleeding that had full term pregnancies.

When spotting was okay...

I think brown is okay, as it's old.

Get your appointment and let the professionals calm your fears.

Hugs!

Thanks! I'll read through that tonight. I definitely need some positive stories right now, or at least something non-pessimistic.

I have spotted some every single day since I found out I'm pregnant. Most of the time its just a little mucousy brown tinge but twice it has been pink and more watery. I think that was due to sex and exercising too hard. I have all the symptoms including terrible all day nausea. If I didn't have that I would be concerned. I spoke to my midwife on the phone and she said spotting is normal but that if it turns to blood then give her a call.
FWIW- my aunt has had several episodes of heavy bleeding and after every ultrasound it showed a healthy happy baby. So not even all bleeding is a cause for concern!! Hers is cervix related. I assume mine is capillaries in the cervix as well.

I know it's so hard but try not to worry! I have had 5 pregnancies and all 5 have had at least some spotting, the one with the most spotting/bleeding was my second and even the OB braced me for the fact I would probably m/c only to have that baby stick until 41 weeks, 6 days! Try to relax but I know it's hard.... :

Thanks! I'm going to focus on the positive stories until I actually visit the doctor, I think...

Meanwhile, I'm just not used to being this tired... It's hard to get used to.

now cramping... good news seems less likely...

I've had somewhat gradually increasing cramping today, but I was still positive this morning because I had pretty much stopped spotting, but then about an hour ago as the cramping got worse there was bright red blood. It's not a lot compared to my normal periods, but it's still going on and off and I'm still cramping. I'm not really sure what I should do regarding a doctor's appointment. My husband won't get home for several hours yet, and if they'd just tell me to go to the emergency room, I'd rather sleep a few hours and wait for him to go with me.

Have you tried calling your doctor's office? They might want you to come in this afternoon.

Thanks...

The problem is, I don't exactly have a "regular" doctor right now. I kind of have one that was going to be my pcp that I saw once last winter, but I feel, I guess, weird calling now? I know I shouldn't, and I realize this is stupid, but there's also the fact that I just don't feel like dealing with people in real life right now...

Do you have to get a referral from your PCP to your OB or midwife? Or could you just call up an OB office and tell them you're pregnant and you are spotting & cramping. Either way, they'd probably tell you to go to the ER since it's the end of the day & you'd be a new patient, blah, blah, blah. (I am annoyed by doctor's offices right now)

Good luck. Keep us updated if you end up going to the ER w/ your DH.

Thanks, will do. I don't have a PCP, and it's a PPO plan, which if I understand gives me pretty good leeway in terms of whom I can see.

I think I should probably just call the doctor I saw last winter for now, though, for various reasons.

Of course, it's also after 5:30 out here now, so the chances of anyone being around are low.

Just sending you a I'd have a hard time going to the ER too if I were you. I hate to actually see anyone for anything!! But of course you want to know whats going on in there......I don't recall how many weeks you are but if you are far enough along they could do an ultrasound to put your mind at ease?

I'm at a little over 6 weeks based on ovulation.

Well, they might not be able to see anything which could just add to your worry. If I were you I would get into the Dr's office tomorrow if you can and get some bloodwork done. That will tell you something and then you can go from there with the ultrasound if necessary.

That's sort of what I've been thinking...

How are you doing now?

I was in a similar situation my last pregnancy. I put off going to a Doc/MW forever because we'd just moved here. I was 13.5 weeks when I started bleeding pretty heavily and with clots, obviously a bad thing. Anyhoo, I did NOT want to go to the ER because I have Dr-phobia anyway and an ER isn't ideal for being calm in that scenario. I called seriously 20 or more different OB offices until someone would see me. It was better though, a more personal touch you know? They were able to get me in right away and were very sensitive to the situation. Unfortunately it ended in a loss for us but there are many, many scenarios where first trimester bleeding doesn't mean m/c so keep your chin up.

Keep us posted! I'll have my toes crossed for you!!!!!
