DS drew a family picture...

DS has started K and the first day I went to the classroom, the assignment was to color a stick to make it look like them. Well, the kid next to him was coloring it blue and I told DS he is coloring it blue and DS said I am using brown because I am tan. The today he brings home a pic of the family and DH and DS are brown and I am red. I am guessing maybe he was thinking of my sunburn a few weeks ago.

my son last spring went through a phase where he was talking a lot about what color everybody (in the family!) is. (there's a family pic in my sig)

He was 'brown', I was "white", daddy was "black" and for some unknown reason he insisted that "Sophie is pink."

that is so sweet and they are so innocent when dealing with culture that it is really refreshing.

That's cute. DS is in kdg too, and we just read Black is Brown is Tan for the first time a few weeks ago. He really enjoyed it, because, I quote, "The kids look like me and DD!" but he kept saying it was wrong, because the mommy should be like me (white) and the daddy like our daddy (black) so "They drew the pictures wrong, Mommy." That's the first time he's really said anything like that, other than asking if I was white after a birthday party where he overhead some other moms talking about me.
