You can also get yourself out there by blogging, setting up a FB FanPage, and a twitter account. I also advertise on Craftcult. I think a top scrolling ad for specific Easter products would be great right about now.

You could also check out Project Wonderful for ad spots on blogs. Timothy Adam Designs has a good little tutorial/video to get you going.
Thank you! I'll check them out. I your stuff at dyeworks! I was checking out your page, and it's just beautiful!

Hi! I'm glad I found this thread. I'm just starting out on etsy and still learning the ropes.

getting started, or not...

i have had an etsy shop for about a year now. i haven't posted anything in a good, long while. i am just very discouraged. i feel like why would anyone want to buy my stuff, when someone else is selling something similar. what will make them pick me? i mean, of course, this is a very defeatist attitude. no one will buy anything from me if it's not out there, right? i guess what i need is some convincing...i worry that i will make a whole bunch of stuff and it will just sit in my closest. i'm sure you've all "been-there-done-that". i would love to hear about your successes.

Wow, there are so many awesome mamas on this thread!! Mind if I jump in?

I use to sell on Hyenacart years ago, but I just started selling on Etsy about a month ago (after years of buying all sorts of beautiful things!). Haven't sold too much yet, but not doing bad. I'm just excited to be making things again and sharing them with people!

Danielle, the best way to go about it is to find your "niche" so you're not competing against as many people. And get your name out there through venues other than just Etsy - advertising or word or mouth in groups that might be interested. Get some business cards and give 5 or 10 a piece to friends or relatives and have them pass them out to people who may have an interest in your product. Be sure to add a signature to your emails, everytime you send out an email there's a chance someone will click through and see your store Good luck!

*Waves hi to Jenne*

Also, going to second what she has said. Get your name out there. Social networking does work. It may not get you instantaneous sales but it will get you views and your name out there. I also do advertising on CraftCult. I am also doing a Shadowbox at EtsyStalker this month. Both sites offer rates and packages that won't break the bank. Well worth it.

Another thing that can help, if not just for sales but also for motivation, is joining a street team. I helped co-found one recently and it has definitely amped my creativity and motivation. There are quite a few, either 'craft' specific or just grouped around supporting each other in general. I suggest one that does stuff actively i.e. team blog, giveaways, twittering etc.

Ma2Maya - I bought a silk from you for my daughter's birthday and sent you some pics not long ago! I should have guessed you'd be an MDC mama

I was wondering if Craftcult, EtsyStalker, etc were worth it - I guess I was thinking that because the majority of the people looking were crafty they may not buy, but rather make their own. Good to know it's been worth it! Once I have a little free time to get some more things in my shop I think I'll try advertising with them

How's everyone doing today? Is it against the rules to post pictures of what we're making? I'd love to see what all you lovely ladies are up to!

Off to clean up/ play with the entire bin of blocks I just heard dumped out in my daughter's room

Joining the tribe. I just started putting stuff up in my shop and could use the support of others. I can relate to dfunk 98. It's taken me a year to put my items on etsy for fear people won't like them. But I'm tired of wondering and figured it's time to do something.
