Midwife Appt Update

I am still here and still pregnant. 38 weeks, 3 days today. I had a midwife appointment today. On the pro-imminent labor side, I have lost weight, baby has absolutely dropped, measuring only 32 weeks now (because he's dropped). On the, not any-time soon side we have 1 1/2 cm dilated (up 1/2 cm from last time), still only 50% effaced, and baby's head is not engaged - still bouncing around. On the "always good news" side we have a small baby - midwife guesses 6 3/4 pounds (DD was 8 lbs).

Have had some intense cramping, a few instances of braxton-hicks, but nothing else to report.

My blood pressure is back down in the normal range - it had been really high this weekend. So I'm to cut back at work and take it easy.

For those of you in storm areas, my midwife said the baromoter drop last week prompted 5 babies in one night. She says there really is some truth to the barometric pressure dropping bringing on babies. Less truth to full moons though.

Hmm... I lost a little weight over the weekend too... and from Friday to Monday she actually "backed" out of my pelvis a bit. My midwife says she's still "playing" so it will probably be awhile.

Isn't it true that for women who have already had at least one baby that the head doesn't necessarily engage until labor starts? I'm sure I've read that a few places.

Interesting, re barometric pressure. And yeah, my midwife totally pooh-poohed the full moon theory...

Yes it's true for women on there 2nd+ pregnancy that the head usually doesnt engage until labor starts.

Yup, I'll be 39w this friday and baby is not engaged yet, hubby was like, "well that's good news right" because we are needing the extra time for my blood levels to get up, but I told him that subsequent babies can engage just before labor and he was like, "DOH!"

Do you have a certain plan if your pressure starts going up again OP? Keep us updated and get as much rest as you can.

She told me that the bp readings at the pharmacies over the weekend are likely not valid. She said they are known to give false readings. BUT if I get consistent high readings AND have swelling AND either a bad headache not relieved by tylenol OR face swelling OR spots, then to call right away. She also said that if I just feel "off" to trust my instincts and pop over to have a nurse check my bp. But she said there was absolutely no protein in my urine, I hadn't had any problems with my first and I was in good health so she advised just taking it easy and not worrying.

On the head engaging, I'd not heard of that but it is good to know. It was odd - she could feel the head and was pressing against it and I could feel him move in response - very odd feeling.
