Homebirthers? - Page 3

I want a HBAC! I'm trying hard to convince my husband...we had a real scare the first time around with our daughter and ended up in an emergency c-section after a botch from our midwife.
Anyhow, it will be a discussion over the next few months but I"m hoping to sway him!

I'm planning a homebirth attended by a midwife. I wouldn't mind aiming for unassisted, but SO's nervous because this is his first baby.

I so want one of these for waterbirthing. I saw this while reading Sky Mall on a plane last weekend flying to NY...I'm seriously considering it

I had something very similar last time. The air jets for back massage were nice! And I thought it seemed sturdier than the AquaDoula because it had hard sides so I could lean as much and as hard as I wanted. Check around, you should be able to rent one for cheaper than buying it! Unless of course, you want one for after the birth too!

I had a UC after two hospital births last time and most likely will have another UC. I'm still kind of getting used to the idea that I am even pregnant.

I'm going to give it some time.

I desparately wanted one last time, then there was a concern about DS's heart and our MWs advised a hospital birth. In the end it was a life-saving decision as DS had serious health problems and was not able to breathe on his own. The birth was completely natural, and I worked very very hard. The labour was short and harsh. Then my contractions slowed to almost nothing and I pushed for 1.75h. In the end I had a little episiotomy and both my MW's hands in me trying to pull him out. Only to not hear him cry, have him rushed to the emerg. I saw him for a brief moment before the ambulance took him to the children'd hospital NICU. I didn't get to hold him for four days. He couldn't nurse, but the little sweetie had nothing but my breastmilk for his whole life. When we switched to palliative care our life as a family began. Although I did a tremendous job of birthing my son, I find it difficult to feel any pride in it. I am, however, overwhelmed with pride about the death we were able to give him. I didn't get a home birth, but I got a home death. The process is pretty similar.

So, you see. After an experience like that my mind is backwards. I think that I will be much more comfortable in my hospital room, with the same MW who has helped me birth my other two darlings. I think a homebirth would be indescribably stressful for me.

I used an aquadoula with DS and while I liked it I would have loved something with jets. This looks like something we could use for birth and beyond for sure.

I'll be having (my first)homebirth this time, attended by a midwife AND I'll be eating the placenta(for the first time)!

I'm in!
Last time, I transported to the hospital after 36 hours of labor...because I was undialating...oy. I had the baby 10 hours later, vaginally, after pitocin...I never want pitocin again. The baby arrived at exactly 42 weeks.

I will be eating placenta, too...rather, I will be drinking ground placenta in veggie juice or smoothie...which ever hides it better.

I plan to work w/ the same midwives as last time, that is, unless, Imalego and I go into labor at the same time...then we'll have to split them amongst us We'll be working w/ the same mw's and are within days of one another.

I had a birth center water birth with my son (my first) and things went beautifully. I'm very excited to be staying at home this time around. I'm not sure if I'll use a midwife or go unassisted - I'm tempted to go unassisted but hubs is a little nervous about that idea!

My midwife was wonderful last time around, but I'm in another state now and there are far less midwives (that I know of) around here. I really want low-key prenatal care...no tests, no U/S, no doppler, etc, unless there is concern. I am very excited to experience a far more laid-back pregnancy this time around.

Also, we're moving to New York sometime in the nearer future (not sure if it will be before or after babe comes) so I'm afraid to become attached to a midwife, anyway, in case we leave before babe arrives.

kriket - I just want to tell you that sometimes things happen that we can't control but also, do not let people tell you that you can't do something. Under the right circumstances you can birth just fine without drugs, etc if there are no complications. I had my first in August 2006. I planned to go all natural and had dh by my side. I did not get an epidural but did get some pain reliever through the IV. I think had I had a doula, this wouldn't have happened. It was so much pressure on dh to see me in that much pain. This time we are doing a homebirth if everything goes well but don't let people tell you what you can and cannot do. Stick to your guns but also be flexible when the birth comes and realize that sometimes life doesn't go according to plan. And research and research and research your options. That was one of my main problems - I didn't know there were alternatives to the mainstream approach until I attended a birthing class in my last trimester.

Q for you ladies. Does anyone's insurance cover a midwife attendant at HB? I would love to HB, but would want someone around since I did have problems with my first. How expensive is your midwife if you are having one?

Medica reimbursed me many months later for over half! I still have medica. Yay!

Me, me! We are planning a homebirth with a midwife. I will have a tub there but will birth in it only if that is what I feel like is best at the time- we will definitely have it available for labor though! I will also have both the doulas who were at my last birth and a good friend who needs to see the difference between a homebirth and a hospital birth!!

By the way, my first birth was in a hospital and though it wasn't horrible I won't ever do it again if I have any control over it!

are any of you ladies HBing in Ohio? I know the legality of direct entry midwives isn't regulated here. I got DH to at least acknowledge the idea he was even asking questions like who would attend, where (what room) would it happen, would the bath tub ever be the same again
