Montessori homeschoolers: differentiating between work & play?

Since I'm just ttc, my interest is purely theoretical right now! But I've always been interested in different educational approaches, and I figure the knowledge will come in handy some day

I'm especially interested in Montessori (and Montessori-influenced) homeschooling. But I'm puzzled by the question of separating, or not, work and play--especially for those who live in relatively small spaces. What are your approaches? Does it seem important to you to maintain a distinction? Do you bother to keep them separate at all? Do you find there to be any beneficial overlap between play and work? Do you keep materials and toys separate or allow them to overlap? Do you have different spaces for play and work? Different times in the day? Do you modify your approach because of any practical limitations? Have you taken different approaches at different times?

a good book that might help

I am just starting out, so I can't offer personal experience advice, but I will be preschooling my daughter loosely based on Montessori and Waldorf philosophies. I have started using Montessori ideals at a young age (dd has her own bed on the floor of her room, and has since 12 months. She can get up and out of bed when she wants.... though I am also an attachment parent, so I have a bed in her room at nighttime. She has a little table and chair with her own glass and plate for snack time, and dh and I try to let her do things independently whenever possible. She is thriving and ahead of the curve in language, gross motor and fine motor.

A book I highly recommend is "Teaching Montessori in the Home." It will answer many of your questions, and it offers ideas on how to make many montessori materials (which can be expensive!) at home.

I consider myself a "montessori mother." I For the longest time much of the Montessori principals I used were based out of Practical life. Last year I did a "letter of the week" cirriculm found on line and used some Montessori ideas, rather than naming the letter each week I called the letter by its sound.
Our "work" was just living every day life, like doing clothes, cleaning eating ect.
Now that my DS is older and has shown interest in more of the Montessori work for Language and Math, I have set up a more prepared enviroment. I have started out with a few activities, Including Geography work(Continents), Sensorial Work(mystery bag), Language (Sand Paper letters), Practical life (scissors).
My plan is to add more work as he become more interested in different topics. Our latest topic has been Mushrooms, as we have many different variety growing in our yard. I will doing Myocology cards for him on the differnt parts of a mushroom, and the mushroom life cycle.
I present the work in the enviroment when he asks what something is, if he's interested he will work more, if not we stop.
