One of my doctor's fearmongering statements when I told her we would be delaying (forever?) our daughter's vaccines is that my DF and I could "bring home" diseases that will infect her. I have decided to look at this statement objectively... what, if anything, are we truly at risk of bringing home?
My DF was born in the late 70s in England and would have received all standard vaccines at the time. He also had measles and ruebella as a kid. He works in an office with about 30 people, primarily single, childless men. He has some contact with clients, but spends most days just in the office.
I was born in 1980 in Canada, and recieved all standard vaccines at the time. I haven't had any childhood diseases, including chicken pox. The titers included in my pre-natal bloodwork confirmed immunity to ruebella, but not CP. I am currently a SAHM.
We live in Alberta.
So what would we be at actual risk of picking up? The only things I "might" be concerned about is pertussis, and Hib. I can't get myself worked up about Hib though, as it is a disease I had never even heard of until I started researching vaccines. Since it is supposedly so awful and there wasn't a vaccine when I was a kid, you would think I would have at least heard of it... no?
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there anything else that could be transmitted by supposedly immunized people?
