So upset -- baby oblique, possible c/s

I really need some positive vibes/prayers/what have you right now. I went to see the MW this morning and the baby is still laying in an oblique position with its head to the left of my pelvis. I now have to go see a consultant at the hospital tomorrow who will confirm the baby's position and probably do a scan. The MW did say that she thought the baby's head is halfway over my pelvis so that with a little luck will move that last little bit into the proper position before labor begins. She mentioned the dreaded 'c-word' though and said that I most likely wouldn't be able to homebirth and might even have to be scheduled for a c-section if the baby doesn't move.

I'm so, so upset about this. I'm so close to the end now and have everything ready for my dreamed of and anticipated homebirth. If it is taken away from me now I will be such an emotional wreck and the rest of this pregnancy will have a black cloud hanging over it.

Please keep me and my little one in your thoughts and if you know of anything I can try to get this baby shifted to my pelvis, please do let me know.

I'm sure you've considered this but mine was like that recently and my chiro was able to move him easily. Good luck to you!

Chiropractic (someone who knows Webster technique), and pulsatilla. And of course, mind your posture. Will the mw do a version? Have you tried any of the Spinning Babies exercises? Possibly something that will get the baby up out of the pelvis and allow him to settle back down in a better position.

There's no reason to schedule a section! Give that baby up til labor sets in to get into position!

I agree! What is the harm in waiting for labor to start?? Sometimes those contractions can be very convincing to a baby that has been hanging out elsewhere.

I agree with the rec. to see a chiro - good luck to you!!!!!

You could also try the cold pack on baby's head, warm pack on pubic bone, have dp talk to baby right by pubic bone, etc....check out spinning babies if you haven't already!

wow. im amazed at your MW's mention of a c/s. i hope you can find a chiro trained in the webster technique..that really does help. my babe was posterior last week and now is in a great position. i dont think a c/s should be scheduled for positioning..sometimes babies move during labor (my ds3 did).

look at www.spinningbabies.com and try some of those things. try chiro, try moxibustion. and definitely go into labor yourself. my DS was transverse and posterior until I was close to transition!!

My baby was like that until 39wks when he finaly settled down in my pelvis.
My midwife said the majority of babies in that position move themselves once labor starts, and wasn't something that she worried about.

No advice, just big to you, mama. Hang in there...

Thanks everyone. I've calmed down a bit now and know that I don't have to take this c-section nonsense if they start pushing that. I don't think they will since they are very homebirth friendly but I will be prepared in case they put the pressure on.

I will take some pulsatilla, I am watching my posture (sitting on birth ball and hands and knees loads) and will make an appointment with a chiropractor as soon as I can.

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it. It's so upsetting when things start to potentially go wrong at this stage.

Glad to hear your feeling better and taking charge. It's so hard to hear that you might lose your HB, I mourned for days, but am trying really hard to be positive and hold out hope for my HB until the end.

*hugs* I may be losing my homebirth too... but not for need of a c-section (unless i end up with a dramatic spike in BP which is always possible), but because I may need an Induction due to high BP. I know it's too much of a risk to me to wait. And high BP does run in my family... it took me a while to realize it.

It looks like some other women on this board have had wonderful births though despite the need for hospital interventions. So that is always encouraging to see. I hope your birth goes well no matter what!

Praying your babe moves, but if not - praying the c-section goes great and you find peace with it.

I just got back from seeing the consultant and the baby is back to being head down and in the correct position. Woo hoo! I am so relieved.
