Vomit And My Sofa

Thread Starter
So oh wonderful mamas, my sweet little 4yo barfed up more barf the other day than any 4yo has a reasonable right to hold in her poor insides.

Soooooo ...

I cleaned it all off, and two days later it still stinks. An area the size of a smallish pillow, perhaps.

Soooooo ...

She was playing with some stuffed animals on that space yesterday and ... now they smell.

Sooooooo ...

Please tell me how to get THAT SMELL out of the couch. Please.

Technicalities:

1. Please don't recommend Nature's Miracle ... we're not in the US, and I haven't seen it in the pet stores here.
2. It's *not* a fancy couch, so feel free to recommend something not too gentle.

Thank you in advance for any advice ...

I've used apple cider vinegar to get rid of old cat pee smell--maybe it would work to get the yucky vomit smell off your couch!

Baking soda? Sprinkle it on the spot and let it sit for a little while, maybe over night, then vacuum it off. And maybe do the vinegar - with TTO in it if you've got some - for good measure.

: The baking soda worked really well here too! Just had DD puke all over the couch here yesterday, so we're doing it again. :Puke

Bicarbonate of soda is good for getting out the last of the smell.I think if the smell is transferring to other things then you probably need some more cleaning too.

I usually use a carpet cleaner spray. The one we use you spray on, rub in the foam then leave overnight. Vacuum up in the morning.

I've also had some success with biological clothes detergent in a wet vac. We use a liquid designed for front loading washing machines.

That said our recent poo on the carpet incident involved 3 days of wet vacing and applying carpet cleaner each day before I felt it was actually clean again!

Do you have access to Bi-O-Kleen Bac-Out?

If not, baking soda.
If it is a light colored sofa you can also use some hydrogen peroxide.

Borax-- it is in the laundry aisle, and is much stronger than baking soda. It works! (uh, stomach flu a couple months ago, all over our new mattress)
I put it in the laundry to remove smells, too. It's pretty cheap and there are a million uses, all printed right on the box!
